North Korea Signals Confrontation, No Signs Of War Preparation

  • North Korea is stepping up confrontation with the United States and its allies, but officials in Washington and Seoul say they have spotted no signs Pyongyang intends to take imminent military action.
  • Kim Jong Un’s government is likely to continue or even increase provocative steps, officials and analysts say, after it made strides in ballistic missile development, bolstered cooperation with Russia and scrapped its decades-long goal of peacefully reuniting with South Korea.
  • Analysts at a prominent think tank said in a report this month that Kim “has made a strategic decision to go to war”, just as his grandfather did in 1950, taking advantage of a U.S. distracted by wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and doubts caused by its withdrawal from Afghanistan.

DRDO Tableau Showcases Liquid Ramjet Technology, MPATGM, Agni-5

  • Demonstrating Nari Shakti on Republic Day, the DRDO tableau was led by Sunita Jena, an outstanding scientist and a specialist in guided missiles. She had developed Indigenous Liquid Ramjet Technology using the technology for STAR series missiles.
  • The DRDO tableau was themed “Self-reliance in Defence Technology”. The Oil 30 developed systems and subsystems being displayed on the tableau: are Missiles like MPATGM, ASAT, AGNI, VSHORADS, NASM-SR, HELINA, QRSAM and Astra; LCA Tejas; AESA Radar; Electronic Warfare System-Shakti; cyber security systems; command control systems; and semiconductor fabrication facilities.
  • 21 Gun Salute is the highest military honour presented to the National Flag from the Kartavya path. The gun salute is synchronized with three simultaneous actions viz-a-viz, unfurling of the National Flag, Playing of the National Anthem by the Service bands and the national salute rendered by the President’s Bodyguard.

Safran Ready To Transfer Tech For Making Fighter Jets In India

  • India’s Ambassador to France, Jawed Ashraf, has said the fighter jet engine manufacturer Safran has expressed its willingness to engage in a 100% transfer of technology across various phases of the project. Jawed said the discussion is going on between India and Safran regarding the Shakti jet engine deal.
  • The primary focus of the deliberations is to align the specifications of the engine with India’s future fighter jet requirements. Ambassador Ashraf said that the India is looking for a comprehensive approach in terms of tech transfer, which goes beyond just the transfer of manufacturing technology.
  • Safran, a key player in the aerospace industry, has expressed its willingness to engage in a 100% transfer of technology across various phases of the project, including design development, certification, and production.

Orders For 307 ATAGS Howitzers For Army To Be Placed Before March 31

  • The first order of 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems for deployment along the borders with China and Pakistan will be placed before the end of the current financial year–FY 24, DRDO chairman Dr Samir V Kamat said.
  • He said that the indigenous 155 mm x 52 calibre howitzer gun was developed by DRDO with two private partners Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd.
  • Earlier in March, last year, the Ministry of Defence received a proposal from the Indian Army to buy 307 ATAGS for deployment along the borders with China and Pakistan.
  • The trials of the ATAGS were completed at the Pokhran Field Firing Range between April 26 and May 2, 2023.
