Naval Chief Flags Surge In Drone And Piracy Attacks

  • “Since November 19, 2023, there have been a total of 30 drone or piracy attacks. So, in about 35 days, it roughly translates into one attack a day,” said Naval Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar.
  • Kumar was addressing a press briefing held at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Tuesday after the commissioning of the latest stealth-guided missile destroyer ‘INS Imphal’. He expressed deep concern over the increasing number of drone and piracy attacks.
  • Whenever there is a disturbance at sea, we have observed a subsequent increase in insurance rates. The Joint War Committee in London, comprising shipping and insurance companies, has collaboratively decided to raise insurance and freight charges. So, our effort is now to make sure that this area gets pushed away from our coastlines, safeguarding our ships from any adverse impact,” he explained.

India To Match China In Infrastructure Development Along Borders Within 2 Years

  • Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita said within a couple of years, India will be able to match China in terms of infrastructure development along the borders between the two countries.
  • He said the Chinese have an advantage in some areas because they started infrastructure development in these places early.
  • “In the last five to 10 years, a lot of focus has been on infrastructure development and I am sure in another couple of years, we will be able to match the capability of the PLA (People’s Liberation Army of China),” General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Army Command, Lt General R P Kalita said in a media interaction at Fort William here.

Pakistan Conducts Successful Flight Test Of Fatah-II

  • Pakistan on Wednesday conducted a successful flight test of indigenously developed guided multi-launch rocket system ‘Fatah-II’, which is capable of engaging targets with high precision up to a range of 400 km, the army said.
  • The ‘Fatah-II’ is “equipped with state-of-the-art avionics, sophisticated navigation system and unique flight trajectory,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, said in a statement.
  • In October end, Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of the Ghauri Weapon System, a week after holding the flight test of the ballistic missile Ababeel Weapon System.
  • In August 2021, Pakistan had conducted a successful test of indigenously developed Fatah-1 guided multi-launch rocket system (MLRS).

Russia, India Closer To Joint Military Equipment Production : Minister Lavrov

  • Russia and India have made tangible progress in talks on plans to jointly produce military equipment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday, after talks with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow.
  • Speaking at a news conference, Lavrov said such cooperation was of a strategic nature and was in both countries’ interests and would help ensure security on the Eurasian continent.
  • Jaishankar said he and Lavrov had discussed the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as bilateral trade and investment.
  • India has become one of Russia’s core economic partners since the West in 2022 imposed sweeping sanctions on Moscow over the war in Ukraine.

Indian Navy Commissions INS Imphal

  • The Indian Navy commissioned its latest stealth guided missile destroyer, ‘INS Imphal,’ on Tuesday in Mumbai, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presiding over the ceremony. This event marks the formal induction of the third vessel in the indigenous ‘Visakhapatnam’ class destroyers.
  • Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, INS Imphal represents a cutting-edge warship with significant contributions from public and private sectors, including MSMEs, & the DRDO.
  • INS Imphal, measuring 163m in length, 17m in breadth, and with a displacement of 7,400 tonnes, stands as one of the most formidable warships built in India. Propelled by four powerful gas turbines, it can achieve speeds in excess of 30 knots.
