Indian Army Procures Critical Cbrn Defence Equipment
- Indian Army has signed a contract on 25 February 2025 for procurement of 223 Automatic Chemical Agent Detection and Alarm (ACADA) systems with M/s L&T Ltd at a cost of Rs 80.43 Cr, under the Buy Indian (IDDM) category.
- This will give a significant boost to the GoI’s Atamnirbharta drive since more than 80% of the components and sub-systems of the equipment will be sourced locally.
- ACADA has been designed and developed by DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Establishment, Gwalior and marks a significant milestone in the nation’s indigenisation initiative in the niche CBRN domain.
- The ACADA system is used to detect chemical warfare agents (CWA) and programmed toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) by sampling the air from the environment.
DRDO & Indian Navy Successfully conduct trials of Naval Anti-Ship Missile
- DRDO) and Indian Navy carried out successful flight-trials of first-of-its-kind Naval Anti-Ship missile from ITR Chandipur on February 25, 2025. The trials demonstrated the missile’s capability against ship targets while launched from an Indian Naval Seaking Helicopter.
- The trials have proven the missile’s Man-in-Loop feature and scored a direct hit on a small ship target in sea-skimming mode at its maximum range. The missile uses an Indigenous Imaging Infra-Red Seeker for terminal guidance.
US Slaps Sanctions On 4 Indian Firms
- The United States has imposed sanctions on four Indian companies—Austinship Management Pvt Ltd, BSM Marine LLP, Cosmos Lines Inc, and Flux Maritime LLP—for their alleged involvement in facilitating the transportation and trade of Iranian petroleum products.
- This move is part of Washington’s ongoing campaign to pressure Iran’s oil trade, aiming to reduce its exports to zero.
- The sanctions were announced by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and are part of a broader effort targeting entities across multiple countries, including the UAE, China, and Hong Kong, that aid Iran’s oil sales.
- The sanctions could complicate India’s energy trade policies, as India balances its strategic ties with both the US and Iran. Prior to 2019, Iran was one of India’s major oil suppliers, but India stopped importing Iranian oil due to US sanctions.

Ukraine Agrees Minerals Deal With US
- US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have reached an “Arms-for-Minerals” agreement as Ukraine continues to seek support in its war against Russia. Trump announced that Zelenskyy would visit the White House on Friday to formalize a critical minerals deal. The announcement came at the start of Trump’s first Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
- Zelenskyy confirmed that a framework economic agreement with the U.S. is in place, though key security guarantees—considered crucial by Kyiv—are still under negotiation. He indicated that finalizing the agreement might depend on discussions in Washington later this week. Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv, Zelenskyy emphasized that the framework deal marks the initial step toward a comprehensive agreement, which will later require approval from Ukraine’s parliament.
- Ukraine remains eager for clarity on the United States’ long-term commitment to military aid, Zelenskyy added. He said expects to have a wide-ranging substantive conversation with US President Donald Trump during a visit to Washington. “I want to coordinate with the US,” Zelenskyy said.
- Zelenskyy said that the main topics that he wants to discuss with Trump are whether the US plans to halt military aid and, if so, whether Ukraine would be able to purchase weapons directly from the US. He also wants to know whether Ukraine can use frozen Russian assets for weapons investments and whether Washington plans to lift sanctions on Russia.
