Royal Saudi Naval Forces Trainees Join First Training Squadron

  • 76 trainees of King Fahad Naval Academy of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces joined the First Training Squadron, 1TS of the Indian Navy at Southern Naval Command, Kochi on 24 Jun 24. This is the 2nd batch of trainees who would be undergoing training with 1TS, the first batch having undergone similar training in May – Jun 2023.
  • The trainees were extended a warm welcome by Senior Officer 1TS, Capt Anshul Kishore during the inaugural address outlining the four weeks long training programme. The training curriculum ranges from basic seamanship activities to simulator based training during the harbour phase, whereas the sea phase focuses on practical exposure to nuances of life at sea.

DRDO Hands Over Medium Range-microwave Obscurant Chaff Rocket To Indian Navy

  • DRDO handed over the Medium Range-Microwave Obscurant Chaff Rocket (MR-MOCR) to the Indian Navy at a ceremony held in New Delhi on June 26, 2024.
  • Microwave Obscurant Chaff (MOC), a niche technology developed by DRDO’s Defence Laboratory, Jodhpur, obscures radar signals and creates a microwave shield around platforms and assets, thus reducing radar detection.
  • The Phase-I trials of MR-MOCR were successfully conducted from Indian Navy ships, demonstrating the MOC cloud blooming and being persistent in space. In Phase-II trials, the Radar Cross Section (RCS) reduction of an aerial target to the extent of 90 per cent has been demonstrated and cleared by the Indian Navy.

Mark Rutte Appointed Next NATO Chief Amid Concerns Over Russia-Ukraine Conflict

  • Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was appointed as the next chief of the transatlantic military alliance NATO on Wednesday, a development that comes during a critical time for European security amid Russia’s war in Ukraine.
  • Ambassadors from the alliance’s 32 members took the decision at a meeting at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.
  • The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) pompously celebrated the anniversary of its establishment on April 4, 75 years ago. On this day in 1949, western nations gathered in Washington, DC, to commit their nations to one another’s defence.
  • The NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance formed in 1949. It was established with the primary goal of providing collective defence against potential aggression, particularly from the Soviet Union during the Cold War era. Over the years, NATO has evolved to address a range of security challenges beyond its original mandate.

Jordan Won’t Send Troops To Gaza To Replace Israeli Forces: Safadi

  • Jordanian Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, said that Jordan will not send troops to Gaza to replace the Israeli occupation forces, and will not deal with the catastrophic reality created by “Netanyahu and his government and this aggression”.
    • “We call on all parties to work towards reaching a just deal that guarantees a permanent ceasefire and the release of all Israeli and Palestinian prisoners and detainees, as a step towards beginning to stop the humanitarian catastrophe imposed by the aggression on Gaza,” he added as quoted by Jordan News Agency (Petra).
    • Safadi added, “The danger of expanding the war is real and increasing, and the only way to prevent it is to stop the aggression on Gaza, stop the escalation against the Palestinian people in the West Bank, reach a permanent ceasefire, respect international law.

US Security Body Seeks Pact With India To End Rescreening Of Passengers

  • The US transport security body has sought a unique “one-stop agreement” with India to end the rescreening of passengers, asserting that the “really powerful” concept will raise global aviation security standards.
  • “Our (US and India’s) national systems of aviation are inextricably linked into a single global network,” he said, adding that the two counties have adjoining air spaces, integrated supply chains, and international services that connect their economies and people.
  • Addressing the India US Aviation Summit here on Tuesday, David Pekoske, Administrator of the US Transportation Security Administration (USTSA) said that the one-stop security concept is “very reachable” between the countries.
  • “I think very tangible and very reachable between India and the United States is one-stop security,” he said.

US has ‘some concerns’ over India-Russia military engagement

  • The US has “some concerns” over India’s engagement with Russia in military and technology domains but at the same time Washington has confidence and trust in New Delhi to advance partnership in key areas, US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell said on Wednesday.
  • The senior Biden administration official made the remarks at a virtual media briefing that was focused on his and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s visit to India last week.
  • On the MQ-9B drone deal, Campbell said a letter of offer and acceptance for the drones was sent to India in March.
  • After being held up for several years, the India-Russia mutual logistics agreement is ready for conclusion, with Russia approving the draft agreement over the past week.
  • In a significant development aimed at bolstering military cooperation, the Russian government has approved a draft logistics agreement with India. The draft agreement, now published on the Russian legal information portal, is a key step in increasing operational engagement between the armed forces of the two countries.
