ICG Inducts ‘Adamya’

  • ‘Adamya’ the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) under the eight FPV Project at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) was inducted in the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on June 26, 2025, in Goa.
  • The FPV is the first ship in its class within the ICG fleet to feature Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs) and indigenously developed gearboxes, offering superior maneuverability, operational flexibility, and enhanced performance at sea.
  • The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilized remote-control guns with fire control systems, an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and an Automated Power Management System (APMS).
  • These FPVs will act as force multipliers in the ICG’s operational fleet, enabling swift response for maritime law enforcement, coastal surveillance, search and rescue operations, and the protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Bengaluru Firm Develops Drone Armed with AK-203

  • A Bengaluru-based defence company, BSS Alliance (Bharat Supply and Service), has developed a drone platform equipped with a firearm, designed for low-altitude tactical operations.
  • The drone integrates with an assault rifle—ideally the AK-203—and is capable of surveillance as well as remote engagement. The system was recently tested in collaboration with the Indian Army.Earlier this week, BSS Alliance also conducted a trial of India’s first AI-powered LMG weapon system in partnership with the Indian Army.
  • The system used an Israeli Negev light machine gun with a 7.62×51 mm barrel. During the trials, the AI-enabled platform identified targets at a distance of 300 metres and engaged them accurately up to 600 metres. The weapon’s effective range is rated at 1,000 metres.
  • In 2020, India procured 16,479 Negev machine guns from Israel, with the total requirement projected at 40,000 units. The current AI-enabled drone platform tested by BSS Alliance is part of this shift towards advanced and indigenous defence technologies.

‘One particular country objected…’: MEA

  • India declined to sign the joint declaration at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) defence ministers’ meeting in China after its proposals to include strong references to terrorism were not accepted.
  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that consensus was blocked by “one particular country.”
  • “India wanted concerns and terrorism reflected in the document, which was not acceptable to one particular country, and therefore the statement could not be adopted,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
  • The SCO meeting concluded without the adoption of a joint declaration due to the lack of unanimity on terrorism language, despite India’s push to include clear references to cross-border threats and the need for accountability.

Russia to Deliver Remaining S-400 by 2026-27

  • Russia said that it will deliver the remaining two squadrons of the S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile systems, which played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan amid military escalation last month, by 2026-27.
  • The delivery of the fourth and fifth squadrons of the S-400 air defence systems have been delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
  • The matter was discussed during the bilateral meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Russian counterpart Andrey Belousov on the side-lines of the SCO defence ministers’ meet at Qingdao in China.
  • “We had insightful deliberations on boosting India-Russia defence ties,” Singh posted on social media platform X. Under the $5.43 billion (Rs 40,000 crore) deal singed in 2018, India was to get all the five squadrons by the end of 2023.
  • Each S-400 squadron has two missile batteries with 128 missiles each, with interception ranges of 120, 200, 250 and 380-km, as well as long-range acquisition and engagement radars and all-terrain transporter-erector vehicles.
  • The Indian Air Force deployed the three S-400 squadrons in the north-west and east India to defend against threats posed by China and Pakistan.
