Pakistan’s Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) Awarded To Top Chinese General

  • Commander of the Ground Forces of the People’s Liberation Army of China General Li Qiaoming was on Tuesday conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, one of the top honours in Pakistan, for his “unwavering commitment” in promoting close cooperation between the militaries of the two all-weather friends.
  • Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir participated during a special investiture ceremony at the President’s House and attended by service chiefs and parliamentarians.
  • “The citation at the ceremony highlighted General Li Qiaoming’s four-decade career, noting his significant contributions to the Chinese military. His intellect, administrative skills, and dedication have earned him a reputation as a courageous and capable officer, crucial in promoting peace and stability in China and beyond,” the state-run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said.

Indian Army Orders An Additional 73,000 SIG716 Rifles

  • Ammunition and pistol maker SIG SAUER has announced a second procurement contract with India’s Ministry of Defence to supply an additional 73,000 SIG716 rifles.
  • When completed, 145,400 such rifles will be in service with the Indian Army, a statement from Sig Sauer said.
  • The Ministry of Defence first awarded SIG SAUER a contract for the SIG716 in 2019 for 72,400 rifles. The successful “fielding and overwhelming” acceptance by soldiers led to this follow-on award for an additional rifles, the company said in the statement.

INS Tabar Reaches Malaga, Spain

  • Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Tabar commanded by Captain MR Harish arrived at Malaga, Spain on 25 Aug 24 for a two day visit to enhance the existing bilateral relations between India and Spain.
  • Diplomatic relations between India and Spain were established in 1956 with the opening of the Spanish Embassy in New Delhi.
  • The visit by INS Tabar further aims to strengthen these bonds and also to explore newer avenues of bolstering the relationship in the maritime domain.
  • Later, upon departure from Malaga, Indian Naval Ship Tabar will also undertake a PASSEX at sea with Spanish Navy Ship Atalaya.

UN Aviation Watchdog Auditing India’s Security Readiness

  • The United Nations’ aviation watchdog, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), has launched an audit of India’s aviation security readiness. The outcome of the audit could potentially impact the international expansion plans of Indian airlines like IndiGo and Air India, say experts.
  • The International Civil Aviation Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Protection Protocol Has Been Upgraded

  • RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s protection protocol has been upgraded from Z-plus to an Advance Security Liaison (ASL) drill in line with that for PM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, MHA sources said.
  • The security step-up was finalised a fortnight ago based on a review of Bhagwat’s security, which was purportedly found to be “slack” during his visits to states governed by non-BJP parties.
  • Bhagwat’s Z-plus security involved officers and guards on deputation from CISF.
  • Sources in Delhi said the RSS chief was known to be a target of several organisations, including radical Islamist outfits.
  • ASL mandates the participation of local agencies like the district administration, police, health and other departments related to the security and safety of the protectee assigned this level of security. This includes anti-sabotage checks with multi-layered security rings, sources said.
  • Chopper travel would be allowed only in specially designed helicopters and governed by the stipulated protocol.
