Vice Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar Takes Over As DG Project Seabird

  • Vice Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar NM, assumed duties of the Director General Project Seabird, with a charter to oversee largest defence infrastructure project currently progressing at the Karwar Naval Base, from Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, on 28 August 2024.
  • VAdm Rajesh Dhankhar was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1990 and is a specialist in Navigation & Direction. The Flag Officer is a recipient of the Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry) in 2015 for Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations (NEO) of Indian nationals from Aden and Al-Hodeida, Yemen.
  • Project Seabird
  • The largest naval infrastructure project for India, it involves creation of a naval base at Karwar, Karnataka, on the west coast of India. This is a massive project spread over around 11,000 acres of land. With the first sealift facility in the country and a transfer system for docking and undocking ships and submarines.
  • Once completed, it will be the largest naval base in the Eastern Hemisphere.
  • It will be able to accommodate around 32 warships, 23 submarines, and hangers for several aircraft.

Bureau of Police Research and Development Celebrates 54th Foundation Day

  • The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), celebrated its 54th Foundation Day at its Headquarters in New Delhi on 28 AUG 2024.
  • The Bureau of Police Research and Development was set up on the 28 August 1970 to further the objectives of the Government of India regarding the modernisation of police forces. It has since evolved into a multifaceted consultancy organisation.

2nd Meeting of Joint Russian- Indian Commission

  • The Second Meeting of the Joint Russian- Indian Commission on the Cooperation in the Field of Emergency Management was held today, on 28th  August 2024 in Moscow, Russia. Shri Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home Affairs, India is leading the Indian delegation.
  • During the first day of the visit, the working plan of the Joint Russian- Indian Commission on the Cooperation in the Field of Emergency Management for 2025-2026 was signed
  • Both the countries agreed to implement this Plan during 2025-2026 and also decided to continue exchange of the best practices and lesson learnt in the field of Disaster Management.
  • Within the overall framework of cooperation, the three specific issues were deliberated in the meeting:
  • Use of space monitoring technologies for risks forecasting and emergency response.
  • Exchange of experiences of responding to large-scale disasters.
  • Cooperation in the field of training of fire and rescue specialists.

India Likely To Commission Second Nuclear Submarine INS Arighat

  • The Indian Navy is likely to commission its second nuclear submarine INS Arighat on Thursday. The commissioning of the second boat is expected to be done in presence of the top defence, national security and military officials, sources said.
  • The submarine INS Arighat is the second boat of the Arihant class indigenous nuclear submarines and will be supporting the existing INS Arihant which was inducted in 2009.
  • The Indian Navy has already developed and tested long-range nuclear missiles from the two boats even as it prepares to induct the third boat shortly with two more set to be ready by the year 2035-36.The Indian nuclear-powered ballistic submarines have been named the Arihant class which is a Sanskrit word meaning the ‘Destroyer of the Enemy’.
  • In the conventional arena, the Indian Navy has already got six new Kalvari class boats and will get 15 more new boats in Project 75 India, Project-76 and Project-75 AS.

Centre Appoints Rajwinder Bhatti as CISF DG, Daljit Chaudhary as BSF DG

  • The Centre on Wednesday appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajwinder Singh Bhatti as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) until September 30, 2025, a government order said.
  • The Central government has also appointed senior Indian Police Service officer Daljit Singh Chaudhary as the Director General, the Border Security Force (BSF) until November 30, 2025.
  • The CISF, which came into existence in 1969 to provide integrated security cover to certain sensitive public sector undertakings with a strength of only three battalions, has since grown into a premier multi-skilled organization with a present strength of 1,71,635 personnel.
