Ex Tiger Triumph – 25

• The Fourth edition of the bilateral Tri-Service India-US Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise, Tiger Triumph, held on the Eastern Seaboard from April 1 to April 13, as per the Indian Navy.
• The Indian Navy noted that the exercise aims to develop interoperability for conducting HADR operations and formulating Standard Operating Procedures to establish a Combined Coordination Center that would enable rapid and smooth coordination between Indian and US Joint Task Forces during exercises, crises, and contingencies.
• Notably, the Indian side represented by Indian Naval Ships Jalashwa, Gharial, Mumbai and Shakti along with integral helicopters and landing crafts embarked, Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft P8I, Army Troops from 91 Infantry Brigade and 12 Mechanical Infantry Battalion, Air Force C-130 Aircraft and MI-17 Helicopters, along with the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT).
• The US side would be represented by US Navy Ships Comstock and Ralph Johnson, with troops of the US Marine Division embarked.
• Upon the completion of the Harbour Phase, the ships with troops embarked would sail for a sea phase and undertake maritime, amphibious and HADR operations off Kakinada.
• The IAF RAMT and the US Navy medical team would also establish a joint medical camp for providing medical aid. The exercise would culminate with a closing ceremony on board the US Navy Ship Comstock on April 13 at Visakhapatnam.

Multi-nation Air Exercise INIOCHOS-25

• IAF participated in Exercise INIOCHOS-25, a prestigious multi-national air exercise hosted by the Hellenic Air Force. The exercise held at Andravida Air Base, Greece, from 31 March 2025 to 11 April 2025.
• The IAF contingent included Su-30 MKI fighters along with combat enabler IL-78 & C-17 aircraft.
• INIOCHOS is a biennial multinational air exercise hosted by the Hellenic Air Force. It serves as a platform for air forces to hone their skills, exchange tactical knowledge, and strengthen military ties.
• IAF’s participation in INIOCHOS-25 reflects its commitment to global defence cooperation and operational excellence. The exercise will further reinforce India’s strategic partnerships-and bolster its capabilities in joint operations with friendly nations

Operation Brahma

• In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand on 28 Mar 25, the Government of India has launched Operation Brahma for rendering assistance to Myanmar.
• INS Satpura and Savitri, from the Eastern Naval Command, have sailed for Yangon on 29 Mar 25, as part of the Indian Navy’s immediate response towards Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).In addition, Indian Navy Ships Karmuk and LCU 52 from the Andaman and Nicobar Command will also be sailing for Yangon on 30 Mar 25, to assist in the HADR operations.
• The Indian Navy remains committed to India’s resolve to remain the ‘First Responder’ in the region.

Medium Speed Marine Diesel Engine

• Project Sanction Order under Make-I category for the Design and Development of 6MW Medium Speed Marine Diesel Engine has been inked between Indian Navy and Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited.
• The prototype diesel engine with indigenous content of over 50% will be developed at a cost of Rs 270 crore with 70% funding from the Government of India. The order also includes the development of detailed design for 3-10MW diesel engine.
• The developed engines will be used for Main Propulsion and Power Generation on ships of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.
• Most of the diesel engines of higher capacity were being imported from foreign Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) till date. This project will start the process in achieving self-reliance in marine engine development in the country.

TARA Glide Bomb System

• The TARA (Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation) system represents a significant advancement in India’s indigenous defence capabilities, developed by the DRDO.
• This engine-free glide bomb combines sophisticated guidance technology with aerodynamic design to deliver remarkable stand-off range and precision.
• Currently undergoing testing with Jaguar aircraft, TARA promises to enhance India’s air strike capabilities while maintaining cost-effectiveness through its modular design and reuse of existing bomb casings.
• TARA has been designed with versatility in mind, coming in three distinct weight variants to address different mission requirements.
• These include the TARA 250 (250 kg), TARA 450 (450 kg), and TARA 500 (500 kg), providing the Indian Air Force with significant flexibility in weapon selection based on target type and mission parameters.
• The TARA system demonstrates remarkable engineering efficiency by integrating with existing Indian Air Force fighter platforms, including the Jaguar, Mirage 2000, and Sukhoi Su-30 MKI.

BEL Secures ₹593.22 Crores Order From IAF

• Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has secured a significant contract worth ₹593.22 crore (excluding taxes) from the IAF for the comprehensive maintenance of the Akash Missile System.
• Akash is a medium-range mobile surface-to-air missile system developed by the DRDO. The Army and the Air Force variants of the missile system are produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited.
• This system was originally supplied by BEL, reinforcing the company’s pivotal role in India’s defence infrastructure and after-sales support. The contract marks a strong start for BEL in the financial year 2025-26, positioning the company for further growth and expansion in the defence sector.
• Beyond this contract, BEL has concluded negotiations for additional orders valued at approximately ₹5,000 crore, indicating a robust pipeline of business opportunities.
• BEL reported a provisional turnover of ₹23,000 Crores, marking a 16% year-on-year growth compared to the previous year.

Naval Commanders’ Conference 2025

• The First Edition of Naval Commanders‘ Conference 2025 conducted in two phases (Phase I at Karwar on 05 Apr and Phase II at New Delhi from 07-10 Apr 25).
• The Conference plays a pivotal role in emphasising India’s role as a ‘Preferred Security Partner’ in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), bolstering Indian Navy’s contribution to regional peace, security, and stability.
• The Conference commenced with Phase I covering ‘Flag-Off of Indian Ocean Ship Sagar’ by the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on 05 Apr 25 at Karwar.
• IOS Sagar is an initiative towards continued cooperation with IOR nations in pursuance of Gol’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions (MAHASAGAR), as elucidated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, during his visit to Mauritius in Mar 2025.
• INS Sunayna is being deployed to the South-West IOR with a combined crew from Indian Navy and nine friendly foreign countries: Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania.
• The Conference will bring out synergy and address critical operational, administrative and materiel issues meriting immediate attention and decisions by Naval Commanders, charting Indian Navy’s course in pursuit of being a ‘Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive and Future Ready Force’.

DRDO Successfully Flight Tests MRSAM

• DRDO and the Indian Army conducted four successful flight-tests of the Army version of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on April 03 & 04, 2025.
• The four operational flight-trials were carried out against high-speed aerial targets. The missiles intercepted the aerial targets and destroyed them, registering direct hits.
• The trials were carried out to intercept four targets at long-range, short-range, high altitude and low altitude, proving the operational capability.
• The MRSAM is developed jointly by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries for use by the Indian Army. The MRSAM Army weapon system comprises multi-function radar, command post, mobile launcher system and other vehicles.

Bilateral Naval Exercise Indra-2025

• The bilateral Naval Exercise INDRA 2025 between Indian and Russian navies was held from 28 Mar to 02 Apr 2025.
  • This 14^th edition of the exercise included a wide range of activities and structured drills designed to enhance interoperability towards countering common maritime threats.
  • The INDRA series of exercises have been a cornerstone of India-Russia Defence relations since its inception in 2003 and both countries recognise the importance of maritime security and the need for a collaborative approach to counter common threats and concerns.

Cabinet Aapproves “Vibrant Villages Programme-II

• The Union Cabinet chaired by the PM Narendra Modi approved the Vibrant Villages Programme -II (VVP-II) as a Central Sector Scheme (100% Centre funding), furthering its commitment for the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 for ‘Safe, Secured & Vibrant land borders’.
• The Programme would help in the comprehensive development of the villages located in the blocks abutting international land borders (ILBs), other than the Northern border already covered under VVP-I.
• With a total outlay of Rs.6,839 crore, the programme shall be implemented in select strategic villages in the States/UTs of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, J&K (UT), Ladakh (UT), Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal till the FY 2028-29.
• The objective of the programme is to create better living conditions and adequate livelihood opportunities to ensure prosperous and safe borders, control trans-border crime and assimilate the border population with the nation and inculcate them ‘as eyes and ears of the border guarding forces’, crucial for internal security.

Rs 2,385 crore contract inked with BEL

• Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with BEL Bengaluru for the acquisition of Electronic Warfare Suites and aircraft modification kits as well as their installation on Mi-17 V5 helicopters, along with associated equipment, for the Indian Air Force at an overall cost of Rs 2,385.36 crore.
• The contract, under Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category, was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on April 07, 2025.
• The Suite for Mi-17 V5 is a significant leap forward in developing indigenous EW capabilities, making the country Aatmanirbhar in consonance with the Make-in-India initiative.

Exercise SARVSHAKTI

• Exercise SARVSHAKTI represents a watershed moment in the Indian Army’s technological evolution, demonstrating the successful implementation of Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) for the first time in field conditions.
• Conducted by the Trishakti Corps in Sikkim, this exercise showcased seamless integration between human soldiers and autonomous systems, signalling India’s growing capabilities in AI-driven warfare.
• The exercise highlighted how drones, robots, and advanced decision algorithms can augment soldier capabilities while maintaining human control of critical battlefield decisions, creating a hybrid force multiplier with significant implications for India’s future defence posture.
• The exercise featured various unmanned platforms including aerial drones, autonomous ground vehicles, and AI-powered decision support systems working in concert with conventional military units.

India’s Armed Forces Turn to Quantum Technology for Cyber Defence

• India’s military is preparing for a major shift in how it approaches cyber operations– one that centres on the adoption of quantum technologies. These include quantum computing, communication, and sensing, which are moving from research labs into real-world defence applications.
• Just last month, on 26 March 2025, a significant seminar titled “Quantum Technology: Impact on Future Wars and Way Forward” was held in Pune by Headquarters Southern Command, highlighting India’s commitment to quantum technology.
• Quantum technology is based on the strange but powerful rules of quantum mechanics. In this world, particles can exist in multiple states at once (a concept known as superposition) and can be linked across distances (entanglement), influencing each other instantly.
• Quantum capabilities also introduce new dynamics into cyber operations:
• Side-Channel Threats: Quantum sensors may be able to pick up electromagnetic signals from devices — revealing clues about their activity or the data they handle.

DRDO Conducts Successful Trials of Bomb ‘Gaurav’

• DRDO successfully conducted the Release Trials of Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) ‘Gaurav’ between April 08-10, 2025, from the Su-30 MKI aircraft. During the trials, the weapon was integrated to multiple stations in different warhead configurations, with land target on Island.
• The trials successfully demonstrated range close to 100 kms with pin-point accuracy.
• LRGB ‘Gaurav’ is a 1,000 kg class glide bomb, designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat, Armament Research and Development Establishment and Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. Senior officials of DRDO and the IAF participated and reviewed these trials.
• The system has been realised with the support of Development-cum-Production Partners – Adani Defence Systems & Technologies, Bharat Forge and various MSMEs.

Indian Army uses new DRDO laser

• A Chinese-origin drone, reportedly operated by the Pakistan Army, was brought down near the Line of Control in Jammu by the Indian Army using an indigenous anti-drone system.
• Defence sources confirmed that the drone was spotted near Indian territory in the 16 Corps area, south of the Pir Panjal ranges. Army Air Defence units responded quickly.
• The unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted using the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System, designed and developed entirely in India.
• At its core is a 2-kilowatt laser beam that can shoot down drones from a range of 800 to 1,000 metres. It also supports other methods of disruption, making it adaptable to a wide range of threats.

EXERCISE DUSTLIK-VI

• The 6th edition of India- Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise DUSTLIK-VI commenced today, at Foreign Training Node, Aundh (Pune). The Exercise conducted from 16 to 28 Apr 2025.
• Indian contingent comprising of 60 personnel represented by a Battalion of JAT Regiment and IAF. The Uzbekistan contingent is being represented by personnel from Uzbekistan Army.
• Joint Exercise DUSTLIK -VI is an annual training event conducted alternatively in India and Uzbekistan. Last edition was conducted in Termez District, Uzbekistan in April 2024.
• The theme of the exercise based on the theme of Joint Multi Domain Sub Conventional operations in Semi-Urban Scenario. It will focus on responding to a terrorist action involving the capture of a defined territory.

Meghayan-25

• The 3rd edition of the Indian Navy’s Meteorological and Oceanological Symposium – Meghayan 25 – was held on 14 Apr 25, to commemorate the formation of the World Meteorological Organisation and celebrating WMO Day 2025.
• The seminar was organised to align with this year’s WMO Day theme – ‘Closing the Early Warning Gap Together’.
• The symposium also saw the revival of its professional Meteorological and Oceanological journal after a gap of almost 10 years. The 10th edition of “Sagarmanthan” was launched during Meghayan 25.

Gujarat Becomes 1^st Indian State To Launch Spacetech Policy

• Gujarat has made a landmark move by becoming the first Indian state to launch a dedicated SpaceTech Policy for the period 2025-2030.
  • This policy is designed to catalyse the growth of the space technology sector in the state through a comprehensive framework of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, aiming to position Gujarat as a national leader in space innovation and manufacturing.
  • The SpaceTech Policy 2025-2030 encompasses support for the entire space sector value chain, including the manufacturing of satellite payloads and parts, communication and propulsion systems, ground stations, satellite control centres, and the design of space-based applications.
  • This policy is set against the backdrop of national reforms, including the opening up of the space sector to private participation in 2020 and the introduction of the Indian Space Policy 2023, which encourages FDI and comprehensive private sector engagement across all space activities.

Printed Military Bunker At 11,000 Feet

• In a landmark technological achievement, India has set a new global record by constructing the world’s highest on-site 3D printed military bunker at an altitude of 11,000 feet in Ladakh.
• This pioneering project was executed by Simpliforge Creations, in partnership with IIT Hyderabad and the Indian Army, under the initiative called Project PRABAL.
• The bunker was completed in just five days, with a total printing time of 14 hours, utilising a specially engineered concrete mix capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of high altitude, low oxygen, sub-zero temperatures, and intense UV radiation.
• The 3D printing process was highly efficient: the robotic printer system was set up within 24 hours, and the structure was printed on-site using locally sourced materials. This rapid deployment capability is a major advantage, enabling swift construction of critical infrastructure in remote and strategically sensitive areas.
• The bunker, designed with advanced geometric features for enhanced ballistic and blast protection, has successfully undergone rigorous field trials, including tests against direct tank fire, demonstrating its robustness and operational viability.

Exercise Desert Flag-10

• A contingent of the Indian Air Force reached Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates to participate in Exercise Desert Flag-10, a premier multinational air combat exercise. The IAF is fielding MiG-29 and Jaguar aircraft in the exercise.
• Exercise Desert Flag is a multinational exercise being hosted by the UAE Air Force, with participating contingents from the Air Forces of Australia, Bahrain, France, Germany, Qatar Saudi Arabia, Republic of Korea, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, and the United States in addition to the Indian Air Force.
• The exercise is scheduled to take place between 21 April to 08 May 2025.
• The aim of the exercise is to undertake complex and diverse fighter engagements, with exchange of operational knowledge and best practices with some of the most capable Air Forces in the world.

Aryabhata, Completes 50 Years

• India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, marked its golden jubilee on April 19, 2025, commemorating 50 years since its historic launch. Named after the ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer, Aryabhata, the satellite was a pioneering achievement for the ISRO and a defining moment in the nation’s technological journey.
• Launched from the Kapustin Yar facility in the USSR aboard a Soviet Kosmos-3M rocket, Aryabhata made India the 11th country in the world to send a satellite into orbit.
• The satellite’s primary mission was scientific and experimental, focusing on X-ray astronomy, aeronomy, and solar physics.
• The 50th anniversary of Aryabhata is being celebrated as a tribute to the visionaries like Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and Prof. U.R. Rao, whose efforts transformed India’s aspirations in space into reality.

India Launches First Indigenous AI Server ‘Adipoli’

• In a significant development that marks a milestone in India’s artificial intelligence journey, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has unveiled India’s first fully designed indigenous AI server.
  • This groundbreaking technology, developed by VVDN Technologies, represents a major leap forward in the country’s technological capabilities and self-reliance efforts.
  • Named ‘Adipoli’—a Malayalam word meaning “awesome” or “fantastic”—the server features eight powerful GPUs and was conceptualised and built entirely within India, with approximately 80% of the development work taking place in Kochi, Kerala.
  • The AI server ‘Adipoli’ represents a culmination of India’s growing expertise in advanced computing and artificial intelligence. Fully equipped with eight graphics processing units (GPUs), the server demonstrates India’s capacity to design and develop complex computing infrastructure domestically.

China Develops Non-Nuclear Hydrogen Explosive

• China has successfully developed and tested a powerful non-nuclear hydrogen explosive with significant military potential for precision thermal strikes.
• This device, weighing about 2 kilograms, was detonated in a controlled field test by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s (CSSC) 705 Research Institute, known for its expertise in underwater weapon systems.
• Unlike traditional nuclear hydrogen bombs, this weapon uses a magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage material called magnesium hydride, which can store more hydrogen in a compact and stable form compared to pressurised tanks.
• China has also invested in large-scale production of magnesium hydride, establishing a factory in Shaanxi capable of producing 150 tons annually using a safer and more cost-effective “one-pot synthesis” method.

IAF’s Akraman Underway For Precise Strikes

• The Air Force is currently undertaking a major exercise to hone its skills for precision air strikes deep inside enemy territory, with frontline assets like Rafale fighter jets involved in a complex wargame that factors in heavy electronic warfare as well.
• The exercise is taking place even as the situation on the border with Pakistan remains tense in the aftermath of the deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
• Rafale fighter jets, equipped with long-range SCALP missiles, are participating in the wargame, simulating operations against robust enemy air defenses and electronic warfare capabilities.

Keel Laying of Fourth NGOPV

• Keel laying ceremony for Yard 3040, the fourth (ex-GRSE) Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), was held at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) in Kolkata, on 24 Apr 25.
• The contracts for indigenous design and construction of eleven Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPV) were concluded on 30 Mar 23 with Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), Goa and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE),
• Kolkata, with seven ships to be constructed by Lead Shipyard GSL and four ships by Follow Shipyard GRSE.
• The NGOPVs, with an approximate tonnage of 3000T, are designed for Coastal Defence & Surveillance, Search & Rescue operations, Protection of Offshore Assets and Anti-Piracy missions.

DRDO Achieves Milestone In Scramjet Engine

• Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), a Hyderabad-based laboratory of DRDO has achieved a significant milestone in the field of Hypersonic Weapon Technology.
• DRDL conducted long-duration Active Cooled Scramjet Subscale Combustor ground testing for more than 1,000 seconds at the newly built state-of-the-art Scramjet Connect Test Facility at Hyderabad on April 25, 2025.
• The ground-test is in continuation of the earlier test reported for 120 seconds in January 2025. With the successful test, the system will be soon ready for full scale flight worthy combustor testing.
• Hypersonic Cruise Missile is a class of weapons that can travel more than five times the speed of sound (> 6100 Kmph) for long duration and is powered by Air breathing engine.
• Air breathing propulsion systems, having supersonic combustion, plays a critical role for long-duration cruise conditions. This test validates the design of long duration scramjet combustor as well as test facility.

India To Procure Approximately 1,750 FICV

• India’s ambitious Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) program marks a pivotal step in modernising the Indian Army’s mechanised forces, aiming to replace the ageing fleet of Soviet-era BMP-II Infantry Fighting Vehicles that have served since the 1980s.
• The FICV initiative, a cornerstone of the Army’s modernisation drive, is designed to deliver advanced, domestically manufactured combat vehicles with superior mobility, firepower, and survivability, tailored for contemporary and future battlefield requirements.
• A key development in the FICV program is the selection of Allison Transmission’s 3040 MX cross-drive transmission by all three government-funded original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)-Larsen & Toubro (L&T), TATA, and Mahindra-competing to develop prototype vehicles.
• The FICV is envisioned as a fully tracked, amphibious armoured vehicle available in multiple variants-Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), Reconnaissance and Surveillance, and Command and Control-to meet the diverse operational needs of the Indian Army’s Mechanised Infantry and Armoured Corps.
• From the perspective of Ukraine, Crimea holds immense strategic and security value. It enables control over maritime activity in the Black Sea and had become an integral part of Ukraine’s national identity over six decades.

India Signs Rs 63,000 Crore Rafale Marine Aircraft Deal

• India and France signed a Rs 63000 crore defence deal for the acquisition of 26 Rafale Marine combat aircraft.
• The government-to-government contract includes 22 single-seater and four twin-seater Rafale M jets, customised for Indian requirements and carrier integration.
• The contract also encompasses a comprehensive package for maintenance, logistics, training, and indigenous component manufacturing.
• The Rafale M jets will operate from INS Vikrant and support the existing MiG-29K fleet.
• The new deal will raise the total number of Rafale jets in India to 62, significantly boosting the country’s fleet of 4.5-generation fighter aircraft.

IAF to Get New Vice Chief, Tri-services To Get New CISC

• The IAF will get a new Vice Chief as Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari would be succeeding incumbent Air Marshal SP Dharkar on May 1.
• Dharkar is superannuating on April 30 after an illustrious career of 40-plus years in the force.
• Air Marshal Tiwari is presently commanding the South Western Air Command in Gandhinagar.
• He would be succeeded by the present Training Command chief. The tri-services integrated Defence Staff will get a new Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC)
• Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been approved to take over as the new CISC in place of Lt Gen JP Matthew, who is superannuating on April 30.
• The CISC is responsible for coordination among the three services and is part of the Chief of Defence Staff team in managing the tri-services affairs.
