A similar idea is being applied in the construction of swarm drones by young scientists at DRDO, Hyderabad. The project is gaining traction at the DRDO Youth Lab, one of five labs established by PM Modi across the country to harness youthful talent in technological development.

What are Swarm Drones?

Swarm drones are multiple unmanned aerial flying platforms that are combined as a single networked self-contained system for communication, reconnaissance, and the delivery of weapons/munitions to an enemy target.

Swarm drone operation entails integrating and operating a large number of UAVs with sensors, weapons/munitions, and communication equipment on board, receiving inputs, constructing a comprehensive combat picture, and communicating to numerous users in a simple and real-time manner. Because the approach incorporates redundancies, it raises the likelihood of mission accomplishment. For example, if a UAV is shot down or jammed, the functions of another UAV take over. Swarm drones are a group of unmanned aerial flying platforms that work together as a single self-contained networked system for communication, reconnaissance, and weaponry/munitions to attack an enemy ground-based target.

Swarm drones, as opposed to conventional drones, can operate alone. Swarm drones fly ahead in astonishing coordination as a team with artificial intelligence (AI). They may launch a coordinated attack by controlling themselves like a well-trained unit. If some of these drones are shot down during an opposing attack, the rest of the fleet can adjust their strategy.

Development of Swarm Drones in India

Their first creation was connected to “drone swarms.” These are self-aware drones that work together to assault the adversary as an army. At the ‘Rashtra Raksha Samarpan Parv’ festival in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, in November 2021, a performance by this young kid wowed the entire country. They are currently working on the second product, which is a gun on a drone armed with a JVPC (Joint Venture Protective Carbine).

With its intelligence, this drone can identify the enemy and shoot at it. We do not currently have such technology. When we fire from the sky, it is not always easy for all of our bullets to hit the target. Only a few rounds hit the target when fired from helicopters. However, Gun on Drone is not like that. It hits the enemy with pinpoint accuracy. It will fire down even if the enemy moves awkwardly. It also possesses ‘evading trajectory’ self-intelligence, which allows it to flee if the enemy fires back.

Various Other Technologies are being Made

In addition, an underwater autonomous vehicle is being developed that may attack the opponent by travelling beneath the water rather than crawling. ‘Rat Cyborg’ is also in the works. The mouse’s brain is controlled and used as a surveillance tool to move about on the ground in this game. They are concentrating on next-generation weapon systems.
