  1. First of all, have confidence on yourself. If a person has self confidence, he has won half the battle.
  2. PPDT is not about describing picture. One needs to develop the concept around it, explaining all the moods and emotions revolving around the story plot.
  3. Practice the PPDT and TAT pictures available on the internet. Download them, write a meaningful story and then try narrating it again and again in front of your friends or the mirror itself. Also start reading newspapers/ books loudly. It just improves your fluency.
  4. Analyse the picture properly: Characters, mood, sex, background and natural surroundings, infrastructure.
  5. Make a mental blueprint of the story in your head first: Creating a hero, a concept of the story and then the final outcome.
  6. From the time you leave the hall to the GD room, you can practice the narration in your head. There is plenty time; so, don’t waste it in chitchatting.
  7. Speak loud, clear and with full confidence fluently. Once you start with clear voice, you automatically gain confidence and others too listen to you with attention.
  8. Try building an Eye contact with your buddies (not the assessors). It is a group discussion and is meant for the group. Be focused.
  9. Try not to fight and argue in the PPDT. Keep your points firmly and listen to everyone during narration.
  10. Frame a realistic well-organized story. You won’t forget or stammer if you are being realistic while framing it. KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE. A good story increases your chance of screening.
  11. Listen to everyone attentively. It helps you to add extra value added points in the discussion.
  12. You can create stories around the latest topics you might have read or heard in news, like some advancements made in healthcare, Digital India, Science and technology (Provided it’s feasible and realistic)
  13. Try keeping Bullet points in your head. For e.g.: Character name, work/post designated, problem or the task to be done/solved, how he/she managed, final result, future outcome etc. Will give you an example: If I have framed a story on some Jungle Safari, my sequenced bullet points in head are:
  • Ria (character name), Head of college adventure club (designation)
  • Organising a tour apart from study (task)
  • Discussed it with club in charge, took permission from Principal and Jungle authorities, put up a notice with details, divided work among the students regarding food catering, transport, first aid, money collection, tents and other stuff needed, trip organized, enjoyed elephant ride, camping, dancing, stargazing and bonfire collecting useful plants for her research work, played many games, etc. (How)
  • Trip successful, everyone was glad and cheerful and came back safely (Result)
  • Seeing the enthusiasm of the students, the Principal made it an annual tour as it was educational too. (Future Outcome)

In a nutshell, the quality of the story matters: Short, Crisp and Influential with a practical approach. With proper narration, it just acts as the icing to the cake. So, a person can be selected for further testing with a good performance in PPDT.

    • Madam it’s not description* test its is discussion* test…yes much may not know about …but if we don’t even know the proper full form of PPnDT is worthless working on it..so please don’t mislead anyone.
      thank you.

      • I have attempted my first AFSB at 3 AFSB Gandhinagar on 8 August 2020. I have performed my level best in OIR as well as PPDT even in PPDT I have followed all rules suggested by ssbcrack. I was so confident after my narration of ppdt but I was screened out.
I don’t know what is the criteria of selection committee because the candidates who have not performed well in ppdt were selected & good candidates were screened out.
I was having fair perception about ssb interviews but now I feel I am wrong they are not fair.

        • I agree. Gave my SSB at 2 AFSB, Mysore and got screened out mostly due to the PPDT discussion which is an insult to the word ‘discussion’.
