FLANQ Introduces Q-RECON: A Compact Uncrewed Surface Vessel for Coastal Missions

German maritime defense company FLANQ has introduced the Q-RECON, a state-of-the-art compact uncrewed surface vessel (USV) specifically designed for coastal and near-shore operations. With a focus on versatility, Q-RECON is equipped to perform a range of missions including infrastructure monitoring and operations in areas where satellite navigation may be limited or unreliable.

Tailored for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance tasks, the Q-RECON boasts integrated navigation systems that enhance its operational capabilities. The vessel’s design features a configurable payload bay and a lightweight structure, making it easy to transport and deploy. Constructed from glass-reinforced plastic, the hull offers durability against the harsh marine environment, while its 3D-printed deck and superstructure contribute to its reduced weight and modularity.

Measuring 2 meters in length (6.5 feet), the Q-RECON is designed to be portable, accommodating two personnel for operations. It includes a 30-kilogram (66-pound) internal payload bay compatible with various sensor types, including advanced 360-degree night vision and multispectral cameras. With the ability to reach speeds of up to 30 knots (55.6 kilometers or 34.5 miles per hour), the USV is well-suited for quick deployments.

In terms of navigation, Q-RECON is outfitted with autopilot features, GPS, and inertial measurement units. Additionally, it offers optional dead reckoning capabilities for use in environments devoid of GPS signals. The vessel leverages FLANQ’s Q-KONTROL and Q-MIND systems to swiftly adjust its sensor configurations and plan missions in real-time, enabling flexible operations even under changing conditions.

The Q-MIND software incorporates AI-driven edge processing, facilitating autonomous mission planning, vehicle control, and seamless integration of sensor data. Moreover, it connects to a secure cloud infrastructure, providing remote data access that supports collaborative analysis and processing of mission information.

Meanwhile, the Q-KONTROL system is a modular hardware platform specifically designed for uncrewed maritime vehicles, enhancing the integration and control of onboard sensors. This system allows operators to quickly modify payloads in the field, thereby ensuring mission flexibility in dynamic operational environments.

Overall, the introduction of Q-RECON marks a significant advancement in maritime defense technology, promising enhanced capabilities for a variety of critical missions.
