At a recent event marking the launch of the book “Beyond Borders,” Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari issued a grave warning regarding the current global geopolitical landscape. He cautioned that the world might be on the brink of a World War, triggered by the ongoing conflicts in Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran.
Gadkari articulated the precarious state of global affairs, stating, “The situation is such that there is a possibility of a World War taking place anytime in the backdrop of these two ongoing wars.” He noted that the prevailing authoritarianism and dictatorial tendencies exhibited by major world powers are undermining fundamental values essential for peaceful coexistence, such as coordination, harmony, and love.
During his address, Gadkari highlighted the significant human and economic toll inflicted by these wars, lamenting the waning effectiveness of international governance systems that are meant to protect humanity. He expressed concern over the technological advancements in warfare, specifically the rise of missiles and drones, which have transformed traditional military strategies. Gadkari pointed out that such developments have made conventional military assets like tanks and fighter aircraft increasingly obsolete.
He remarked, “Amid all this, it has become difficult to protect humanity. Often, missiles are fired on civilian settlements. This has created a serious problem, and there is a need to discuss all these issues at a global level.”
In light of escalating tensions, Gadkari urged the international community to come together and urgently formulate policies aimed at addressing these dire issues. He evoked India’s rich spiritual heritage, reminding attendees that the nation, historically guided by the tenets of truth, non-violence, and peace, has a significant role to play on the global stage.
Concluding his speech, Gadkari reflected on the destructive trends emerging in global politics, stating, “It won’t be right to say so, but the fact is that all this is slowly leading to destruction. Authoritarianism and dictatorship of the superpowers is making coordination, harmony, and love vanish.”
The minister’s remarks call for communal introspection and international cooperation at a time when the world grapples with complex geopolitical challenges.
