Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched unique skill-based Bachelor’s Degree Programmes for newly enlisted Agniveers in partnership with the Indian Air Force.

The Degree Programme gives equal weight to intellectual and skill components, meeting the NEP-2020 requirement of combining higher education and skill education. It was inaugurated by Prof Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, and Air Marshal Suraj Kumar Jha of the Indian Air Force.
The three-year degree programme allows for different entry and exit points. After completing the first year with 40 credits, an undergraduate certificate will be issued, and after completing 80 credits in two years, an undergraduate diploma will be conferred.
The students have the option of leaving and returning. IGNOU will provide the knowledge component of the programme from its portfolio of courses available to bachelor’s degree students in Arts, Science, Commerce, Tourism Management, and Vocational Studies (MSME).
The skill-based courses will be connected with the NSQF and delivered through IGNOU as well as training at the IAF training facility. During the ceremony, Prof Nageshwar Rao provided insights into the delivery mechanism for student support services to Agniveers to ensure their smooth progress in pursuing programmes and appearing for exams at various IGNOU centres at their convenience.
Air Marshal Suraj Kumar Jha stressed the far-reaching implications of this collaborative endeavour and encouraged the Defence Forces, particularly the Agniveer, to pursue higher education while on the job.
