In a marked advancement in India’s defense capabilities through the integration of advanced technologies, officers from the Indian Army’s Southern Command have recently engaged with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune. This visit was designed to strengthen collaboration in quantum technology, in alignment with the government’s #AtmaNirbharBharat initiative, which promotes self-reliance in defense innovation.
During their visit, the delegation interacted with a host of researchers and experts, focusing on the potential applications of quantum technology in military operations. Discussions involved key areas such as quantum computing, secure quantum communication facilitated by Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), and the development of AI-enabled defense networks. These cutting-edge technologies are anticipated to transform secure communications significantly and enhance computational capabilities for defense purposes, thereby providing a robust defense against emerging cyber threats, particularly those associated with quantum computing attacks on existing encryption systems.
This initiative is part of the Indian Army’s broader strategies outlined under #YearOfTechAbsorption and #DecadeOfTransformation (2023–2032), which aim to modernize military capabilities by incorporating advanced technologies. The collaboration emphasizes the significance of military-civil fusion, leveraging the country’s extensive research ecosystem to create indigenous solutions that address national security needs.
