In a significant escalation of tensions, the Indian Army has initiated a strong response to recent attacks from Pakistan, which included drone and missile strikes aimed at critical military sites in the Jammu sector. According to defense sources, these aggressive actions were launched by the Pakistan Army and affected areas along both the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB).
The Indian Ministry of Defence reported that a series of Pakistani-origin drones, along with eight missiles, targeted vital locations such as Satwari, Samba, Ranbir Singh Pura, and Arnia within the Jammu region. However, Indian air defense systems successfully intercepted all incoming missiles, averting potential casualties and safeguarding infrastructure.
This increase in hostilities follows a coordinated assault on May 8, which produced loud explosions across Jammu. It is believed that this wave of attacks is a direct response to India’s recent cross-border operation known as Operation Sindoor. This operation aimed at dismantling nine terrorist infrastructure sites within Pakistan, a move triggered by a deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
In the wake of these developments, Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, issued a warning of further retaliation, highlighting the cycle of accusations between the two nations regarding the origins of the drone warfare. The ongoing conflict further emphasizes the longstanding and complex dispute over the Kashmir region, a flashpoint between the two nuclear-armed countries for decades.
In response to the heightened situation, authorities have imposed a comprehensive blackout across Indian-administered Kashmir, including Jammu city, and have increased security measures along the border. The environment remains fraught with tension, as both sides remain on high alert in anticipation of potential further escalations.
