The Indian Army has placed a $7,300 crore order for weaponry from indigenous manufacturers in response to China’s border security concerns. Contracts of over Rs 7,000 crore are nearing completion. They should be completed within the next few weeks.
According to reports, 49 programmes worth Rs 7,600 crore have already been contracted, with 34 more worth Rs 7,000 crore in the final stages. The equipment list includes drone and counter-drone systems, automated spectrum monitoring systems, loiter munitions weaponry, simulators, communication systems, and vehicles.
The Indian armed forces were granted emergency powers twice. Once, following the Galwan crisis in 2020, and again, following the Balakot airstrikes.
India-China Military Talks
On Tuesday, India and China published a joint statement in which they agreed to handle the lingering issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh while maintaining peace and harmony in the border regions.
It was the first time high-level military conversations about the border conflict lasted two days, totalling nearly 17 hours of deliberate time. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in person next week at the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) conference in Johannesburg.
