Importance Of Nistar & Nipun Diving Support Vessels

  • These ships would be used for diving operations in the deep sea. With a Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) on board, the DSVs are also made to rescue people from submarines if that becomes necessary. Also, these ships will be able to patrol for long periods of time, do Search and Rescue operations, and do Helicopter Operations out at sea.
  • With about 80% of its content coming from India, the DSV project has created a lot of local jobs and helped promote indigenization, which will help India’s economy.

All About Indian Navy Two Nistar & Nipun Diving Support Vessels

  • The Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) are the first ships of their kind to be made for the Indian Navy. They were designed and built at HSL. The ships will be 118.4 metres long, 22.8 metres wide at their widest point, and weigh 9,350 tonnes.
  • These ships, which were locally created and constructed at HSL, are a great testament to “Aatmanirbharta.” They are self-sustaining platforms that can function for extended periods of time at sea.
  • For deep sea diving and submarine rescue missions, DSVs outfitted with a variety of intricate Diving Support systems and Deep Submergence Rescue Vessels (DSRV) will be used. Additionally, the ships will be able to perform sea-based Helicopter Operations and Search and Rescue missions.
  • MSME companies in India, who have provided Yard material, equipment, and services, are helping to carry out this project. The shipyard makes heavy use of the GeM site to order supplies and services for the undertaking. Over 120 MSME vendors from all over India took an active interest in the project.
  • Launching “Nistar” and “Nipun” with around 80% indigenous material was a significant step toward “Self Reliance.” The DSV project has encouraged indigenization and created local employment possibilities, both of which would strengthen India’s economy.
  • The president of the Navy Wellness and Welfare Association (NWWA), Mrs. Kala Hari Kumar, gave these ships their traditional names. As they welcomed the hospitable waters of the Bay of Bengal, these ships were greeted by a thundering cheer from the joyful crowd.
