L3Harris Technologies has announced the launch of its production of electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems at a newly established facility in Katowice, Poland. The facility spans 2,000 square meters (21,528 square feet) and is designed to cater to Poland and other European operators by supplying advanced intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting sensors for both crewed and autonomous platforms.
The focus of production at this new site will be the EMX-Series EO/IR sensor systems, which are integral to supporting multi-domain military operations. These systems are particularly vital for counter-unmanned systems missions, reflecting the evolving landscape of modern warfare and security challenges.
This initiative is part of a broader endeavor by L3Harris to enhance its multi-sensor capabilities and reduce delivery lead times across the European market. The Katowice facility aims to quickly scale production in alignment with Europe’s Readiness 2030 and Security Action for Europe initiatives, both of which address emerging security threats in the region.
Earlier this year, L3Harris expanded its European footprint by opening a manufacturing and product support center in Bologna, Italy, focusing on the production of WESCAM MX-Series EO/IR sensors. This highlights the company’s commitment to establishing a robust manufacturing presence in Europe, aimed at meeting local demand for critical defense technologies.
Tom Kirkland, L3Harris’ Vice President and General Manager for Targeting & Sensor Systems, emphasized the necessity for rapid delivery of trusted solutions in today’s contested environments. He stated that the capacity to manufacture and provide EMX-Series EO/IR systems directly from Europe is essential for helping customers maintain peak operational readiness. This initiative also reinforces L3Harris’ commitment to cultivating strong and strategic partnerships within the local defense community.
