Lists Of Important Boundaries Lines In The World

The line which demarcates the two countries is termed as Boundary line. Famous and Important Boundary lines of various countries are described here – Radcliffe Line Line represents the boundary line between India and Pakistan.

The Boundary line is the separating line between two countries. Borderline designations make it easy for us to identify and easy to remember this dividing line between the countries with their territorial limits. Understanding the Important International Boundary Lines between various countries is critical because it will improve your general knowledge and answer many questions on various exams.

Radcliffe Line

  • The Radcliffe Line was the demarcation line between the Indian & Pakistani portions of the Punjab & Bengal provinces of British India.
  • It was named after its architect, Sir Cyril Radcliffe, who was the joint chairman of the two boundary commissions for the two provinces.
  • The demarcation line was published on 17 August 1947 upon the Partition of India.

Line Of Control (LOC)

  • The Line of Control (LoC) is a military control line between the India and Pakistan
  • A line which does not constitute a legally recognized international boundary but serves as the de facto border.
  • Originally known as the Cease-fire Line, it was re-designated as the LOC following the Shimla Agreement, 3 July 1972.

Mc-Mohan Line

  • The McMahon Line is the demarcation line between Tibet and the North-east region of India proposed by British colonial administrator Sir Henry McMahon at the 1914 Shimla Convention signed between British and Tibetan representatives.
  • It is currently the effective boundary between China and India.

Line Of Actual Control (LAC)

  • The Line of Actual Control (LAC) is a loose demarcation line that separates Indian & Chinese territory in the Sino-Indian border dispute.
  • The term was first used by Zhou Enlai in a 1959 letter to Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • It subsequently referred to the line formed after the 1962 Sino-Indian War and is part of the Sino-Indian border dispute.

Durand Line

  • The international 2,430-kilometre land border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  •  It was originally established in 1893 as the international border between British India and Afghanistan by Mortimer Durand.

Military Demarcation Line / 38TH PARALLEL

  • The Military Demarcation Line (MDL), sometimes referred to as the Armistice Line,
  • It is the land border or demarcation line between North Korea and South Korea.
  • On either side of the line is the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
  • The MDL and DMZ were established by the Armistice.

Blue Line

  • The Blue Line is a border demarcation between Lebanon and Israel in 2000.

Green Line

  • The Green Line, Armistice border is the demarcation line set out in the 1949.
  • Armistice Agreements between the armies of Israel and those of its neighbors Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

Purple Line

  • The Purple Line was the ceasefire line between Israel and Syria after the 1967 War.

Mannerheim Line

  • The Mannerheim Line was a defensive fortification line on the Karelian Isthmus built by Finland against the Soviet Union during the Winter War.

Curzon Line

  • The Curzon Line is a proposed demarcation line between the Second Polish Republic and the Soviet Union that was put forward by British Foreign Secretary George Curzon in 1919.

Maginot Line

  • The Maginot Line named after the French Minister of War André Maginot, is a line of concrete fortifications, obstacles, and weapon installations built by France in the 1930s to deter invasion by Germany and force them to move around the fortifications.

Siegfried Line

  • The Siegfried Line, known in German as the West wall, was a German defensive line built during the 1930s opposite the French Maginot Line.

Hindenburg Line

  • The Hindenburg Line was a German defensive position built during the winter of 1916 – 1917 on the Western Front during the 1st World War.

Order – Neisse Line

  • The Order – Neisse line is the basis of the international border between Germany and Poland.

16th Parallel North

  • The border line between Namibia & Angola.

17th Parallel North

  • The border line between North & South Vietnam.
  • It was demarcated based on the 1954 Geneva Accords.
  • The 17th parallel became irrelevant after the unification of Vietnam in 1976.

20th Parallel North

  • It is located 20th northern latitude is used as the border between Sudan and Libya.

22nd Parallel North

  • The 22nd latitude north of the equator marks a major portion of the Sudan-Egypt border.

25th & 26th Parallel North

  • The northernmost section of the Mali – Mauritania border is marked using this line.
  • 26th Line is between the Western Sahara & Mauritania.

31st Parallel North

  • The 31st northern latitude marks the border between Iraq and Iran.

49th Parallel North / Medicine Line

  • Demarcated after the Anglo-American Convention of 1818 and the Oregon Treaty of 1846.
  • It forms the international border between northern USA(Excluding Alaska) and Canada.

42nd Parallel North US it serves as border of new York & Pennsylvania Border
43rd Parallel North US it serves as border of b/w State Nebraska & state of south Dakota
