A team of ten National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets has achieved a remarkable feat by unfurling the Indian tricolour atop Mount Everest on May 18, 2025. This significant achievement marks the NCC’s third successful ascent of the world’s highest peak, following previous expeditions in 2013 and 2016. The diverse team comprised five boys and five girls, with an average age of 19, and was led by an impressive 16-year-old, exemplifying the fearless spirit of India’s youth.
The journey commenced with a flag-off ceremony held in New Delhi on April 3, 2025, officiated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This ascent was part of the NCC’s 89th mountaineering mission, which has seen consistent participation since its establishment in 1970. In preparation for the treacherous climb, the cadets engaged in intensive training at the Army Mountaineering Institute and the Siachen Base Camp, equipping them to tackle the extreme challenges that Everest presents.
Upon their return, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, met with the expedition team to congratulate them on their success. He praised their courage, discipline, and unity, emphasizing the importance of sharing their inspirational journey with others. The CNS highlighted the NCC as a platform for leadership, adventure, and instilling national pride, calling their achievement a testament to the adventurous spirit and resilience of a rapidly developing India.
This successful expedition not only reflects the physical endurance and determination of its young participants but also underscores the significant focus on youth empowerment, national service, and environmental awareness within the country. The accomplishment aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which aims for India to become a developed nation by its 100th year of independence.
With its headquarters in New Delhi, the NCC has grown since its inception in 1948 into a leading youth organization dedicated to shaping the leaders of tomorrow. The historic climb adds yet another milestone to its legacy, emphasizing values such as discipline, courage, and unwavering service to the nation.
