India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, will inaugurate the North Tech Symposium on 4 May 2026 in Prayagraj. The event is themed “Raksha Triveni Sangam – Where Technology, Industry & Soldiering Converge.”
Jointly organized by the Indian Army’s Northern and Central Commands along with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers, the three-day symposium aims to bridge the gap between defence forces and indigenous technological innovation.
Key highlights include:
- Participation of 284 companies
- Involvement of MSMEs, startups, and defence tech firms
- Exhibition of advanced indigenous solutions
The event focuses on identifying deployable technologies, improving maintenance systems, and streamlining procurement processes to strengthen India’s self-reliant defence ecosystem.
With the Indian Army increasingly emphasising innovation to tackle evolving security threats, the symposium aims to foster collaboration among the military, industry, academia, and scientific community. The event will conclude on May 6 and is expected to enhance synergy in advancing national security and technological excellence, it added.
Defence Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh (UP DIC)
The Defence Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh (UP DIC) is one of India’s most ambitious initiatives to boost indigenous defence manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports. It plays a key role in strengthening the vision of self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) in the defence sector.
Overview of UP Defence Industrial Corridor
The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor was announced by the Government of India in 2018 to promote domestic production of defence equipment and attract investment.
- Nodal Agency: Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA)
- Objective: Develop a strong defence manufacturing ecosystem
- Focus: Aerospace, defence production, research, and innovation
Key Nodes of the Corridor
The corridor is spread across six major cities in Uttar Pradesh:
1. Lucknow (Central Hub)
- Administrative headquarters of the corridor
- Focus on research, development, and coordination
2. Kanpur
- Known for ordnance factories and textile industries
- Focus on small arms, textiles, and protective gear
3. Jhansi
- Largest land allocation for defence manufacturing
- Ideal for heavy equipment and testing facilities
4. Agra
- Strategic location with strong connectivity
- Focus on aviation and logistics
5. Aligarh
- Known for hardware and lock industries
- Focus on small arms and precision components
6. Chitrakoot
- Emerging industrial zone
- Focus on ancillary units and support industries
