On Tuesday, 2,585 men and women of the Indian Navy passed out from the portals of the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Chilka, which is based in Khurda and is under the command of the Southern Naval Command. The POP of Agniveers was also the first of its kind because it occurred after sunset. In addition, for the first time, the Indian Navy presented the General Bipin Rawat Rolling Trophy to the woman Agniveer Trainee who placed first in the overall order of merit.
Passing Out Parade of the First Batch of Navy Agniveers
Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff and Parade Reviewer, described the event as ‘historic,’ saying that those passing out from the INS Chilka were making history. “This is a historic event, and we are all witnesses to history being made.” It’s also the first time a POP has taken place at sunset, which is a welcome change from the usual morning parades,” he said. There were 272 women among the 2,585 Agniveers who passed out on Tuesday. The parade also marked the beginning of a new journey in the Indian Navy, where men and women will collaborate to make the Indian Navy a combat-ready, credible, cohesive, and future-proof force.
Admiral Kumar insisted that Tuesday’s parade would not only make history by delivering the first batch of Agniveers but also by demonstrating the strength of women in the forces. “You will be a trailblazer for the future Agniveer….you will also decide how you will contribute to nation building in addition to working for the Indian Navy.” “With the first-ever batch of women sailors passing out today, you are all beginning a new chapter in the Indian Navy,” Admiral Kumar said.
Admiral Kumar praised the late General Bipin Rawat, the first chief of army staff, for his role in realizing the Agniveer scheme, and thanked Gen. Rawat’s daughters for agreeing to award the rolling trophy to Agniveer Kushi. The Chief of Naval Staff Rolling Trophy and a gold medal for Best Agniveer were also presented to Agniveer Amalakanti Jayaram (senior secondary recruit) and Agniveer Ajith P. (matric recruit) by the chief guest.
“As you pass a significant milestone today, please allow me to share what you can expect from the service and what the service expects from you.” The Indian Navy will not only train you to be a skilled sailor but will also inspire you to become a capable individual. “You will not only grow physically and professionally, but the Navy will also ensure that your social, emotional, and psychological skills are enhanced,” Admiral Kumar said, adding that the Navy will make those graduating into better people and leaders. He added that the Navy’s skill and training will continue to inspire Agniveers to live the life of an ideal citizen who is dedicated to the nation.
The Agniveers underwent 16 weeks of rigorous training at INS Chilka, the Indian Navy’s premier sailor training establishment, as part of their transformation into sea warriors.
