Indian Navy successfully completed the first Sortie of the sixth and the final Sortie of Scorpen Submarine Vagsheer. INS Bagsheer is a Kalvari class Submarine which has been developed under the project named Project-75.
INS Vagsheer was launched on 20th April 2022 in the West Basin of Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). Indian Navy is expected to receive the delivery of INS Vagsheer in early 2024 after the trials of the submarines are successfully completed.
6 Submarines under Project 75
MDL has delivered three Project-75 submarines in 24 months and the commencement of sorties for the sixth submarine is a significant milestone. The submarine will now undergo ‘intense’ trials of all its systems at sea, including propulsion, weapons, and sensors.
Under Project 75, Mazagaon Docks Limited has delivered 6 Scorpene-Class Submarines, 3 of them in just 24 months. The Commencement of the sorties of the sixth submarine is a milestone in itself.INS Vagsheer is named after a type of sandfish–a deadly deep-sea predator native to the Indian Ocean. INS Vagsheer was first procured from Russia on 26th December 1974 and was decommissioned in 1997, after service of almost 3 decades to the Indian Navy.
Scorpene-Class Submarines
Scorpene-Class Submarines are the State of Art technology which allows super stealth features like advanced acoustic, absorption techniques, low radiated noise levels, the ability to launch crippling attacks using precision-guided missiles and a hydro-dynamically optimized shape. Accordingly, INS Vagsheer is designed to operate in every environment, that is in all theatres of operation displaying interoperability with other components of NTF (Naval Task Force). It is a potent platform, marking a transformational shift in submarine operations. With the launch of Vagsheer, India further cements its position as a Submarine-Building Nation and MDL has more than lived up to its reputation as Warship and Submarine Builder to the Nation.
