The link between Mansa-Vacha-Karmana in SSB Interview

The Services Selection Board (SSB) is the board in charge of selecting officers for the armed forces. It goes through a 5-day selection process to find the best candidate for the armed forces. As a result, the selection procedure became known as SSB or SSB interview.

Choosing the right people for the forces and placing them in the right roles is critical in determining whether they are giving their all to the organization.

SSB and its relation with OLQ’s

SSB is a tried-and-true method of selecting officers for the armed forces. And, while there is a shortage of officers in the forces, SSB would never compromise the quality of the officer needed to fill the extra vacancies. If you are capable and have the 15 OLQs, you are in; otherwise, you are not.

This proper Selection System aids in the selection of the right people for the organization. A single mistake in hiring for a job can lead to a slew of issues in an organization. As a result, even if it requires some investment, an organization should ensure that suitable people are recruited. That is precisely why selection for the armed forces differs from that for the private sector.

The armed forces have a strict “right fit” candidate policy, whereas corporations have a “best fit” policy. This means that in corporate selections, the best of the best are chosen, whereas only the best candidates are chosen for the armed forces.

However, in the armed forces, the relationship between three critical qualities – Manasa, Vacha, and Karma – is scrutinized. That is, your thoughts, words, and actions are all in perfect sync. As a result, three assessment techniques are used in the SSB.


Manasa, Vacha, and Karmana are three Sanskrit words. Manasa refers to the mind, Vacha to speech, and karmana to actions.

These three words are used interchangeably in several Indian languages to describe an individual’s expected level of consistency. The mantra Manasa, Vacha, and Karmana is commonly used to imply that one should strive to achieve a state in which one’s thoughts, speech, and actions all coincide.

One of the three components that make up the foundation of the SSB evaluation process is Vacha. Vacha refers to the phrases a candidate uses. Without a doubt, his words must reflect the way he thinks and behaves. Vacha serves as a link between a candidate’s Manasa, or way of thinking, and his Karmana, or actions. Many candidates have innovative ideas in their heads but are unable to communicate them to others. As a result, they are unable to implement their ideas and participate in productive group discussions without interfering with the group.

Manasa, or Psychological Testing, is concerned with observing how one employs his Mental Faculties. Vacha is all about listening to his Conversation, and his performance on the Ground is put to the test in Karmana.
