ISRO Launches Rocket PSLV-C53
- Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched the rocket PSLV-C53, carrying three Singapore satellites. The launch vehicle lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.
- Six nano-satellites including those belonging to India’s two private space start-ups also will go to space.
- PSLV-C53 is the second dedicated commercial mission of the NewSpace India Limited, a public sector unit under the Department of Space. It was formed after the recent space sector reforms.
- For the workhorse launch vehicle PSLV, this will be the 55th mission. Its primary payloads are the 365 kg earth observation satellite called DS-EO, a 155 kg NeuSAR satellite and the 2.8 kg Scoob-1 nano-satellite of the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
‘Udyami Bharat’ Programme
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the ‘Udyami Bharat’ programme in New Delhi. During the event, He launched the ‘Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance’ (RAMP) Scheme, ‘Capacity Building of First-Time MSME Exporters’ Scheme and new features of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme PMEGP.
- He digitally transfers assistance to beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme for 2022-23. Mr Modi announced the results of MSME Idea Hackathon-2022 and distribute National MSME Awards. He also issued Digital Equity Certificates to 75 MSMEs in the Self-Reliant India Fund.
- RAMP scheme, with an outlay of around six thousand crore rupees. It aims to scale up the implementation capacity and coverage of MSMEs in the states, with impact enhancement of existing MSME schemes.
- Udyami Bharat is reflective of the continuous commitment of the government, right from day one, to work towards the empowerment of MSMEs.
- The government has launched several initiatives from time to time like MUDRA Yojana, Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme, and Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries. This has been done to provide necessary and timely support to the MSME sector, which has helped benefit crores of people across the country.
Primary Agriculture Credit Societies
- The Union Cabinet approved the computerization of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies PACS.
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs CCEA has decided that 63,000 functional PACS will be computerized with an overall budget outlay of 2,516 crore rupees.
- The move will benefit 13 crore farmers.
- The PACS constitutes the lowest of the three-tier Short-term cooperative credit STCC in the country comprising approximately 13 crore farmers as its members, which is crucial for the development of the rural economy.
- PACS accounts for 41 percent of the KCC( Kisan Credit Card) loans given by all entities in the Country and 95 percent of these KCC loans through PACS are to the Small and Marginal farmers.
- The other two tiers, State Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks have already been automated by the NABARD and brought on Common Banking Software.
Schedule For Vice Presidential Election Released
- The Vice-Presidential Election will be held on the 6th of August. In a statement, the Election Commission of India ECI said, notification for the election will be issued on 5th July and nominations can be filed till 19th of next month.
- The scrutiny of nominations will be done on 20th July.
- The Commission said, the Electoral College for the Vice-Presidential Election consists of 233 elected members of Rajya Sabha, 12 nominated members of Rajya Sabha and 543 elected members of Lok Sabha. The Secretary-General of Lok Sabha will be the Returning Officer for the Election.
- The term of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu is ending on 10th August.
47th GST Council @ Chandigarh
- The 47th GST council meeting under the Chairmanship of Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in Chandigarh ended today. The meeting was attended by the Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Choudhary besides Finance Ministers of States and UTs and senior officers of the Ministry of Finance & States, UTs.
- The finance minister spoke about rate rationalization, the GST compensation to states, corrections of invested duties, and virtual digital assets. She said the Council directed that the Group of Ministers on Casino, Race Course and Online Gaming re-examine the issues in its terms of reference based on further inputs from States and submit its report within a short duration.
- In the meeting, the GST on LED Lamps, lights and fixtures, and their metal printed circuits board is raised from 12 per cent to 18 per cent. In the case of the Solar Water Heater system GST was raised from 5 to 12 per cent whereas in the Works contract for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plant, crematorium etc the tax was raised by 12 to 18 percent.
- The tax also hiked in Works contract supplied to central and state governments, local authorities for historical monuments, canals, dams, pipelines, plants for water supply, educational institutions, hospitals, etc. & sub-contractor from 12 to 18 percent. Electric vehicles whether or not fitted with a battery pack, are eligible for the concessional GST rate of 5 per cent.
- GST rate on Tetra Packaging has been raised from 12 to 18 percent. Cut and Polished diamonds are up from 0.25 per cent to 1.5 percent. All rate changes recommended by the 47th GST Council will be made effective from 18th July, 2022.
E-Learning Portal ‘Dak Karmayogi’ Launched
- ‘Dak Karmayogi’, an e-learning portal of the Department of Posts was launched by Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and MoS Communications Devusinh Chauhan in Delhi today.
- This portal has been developed under the vision of ‘Mission Karmayogi’, which was conceptualized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring efficiency to the actions of all government employees.
- ‘Dak Karmayogi’ portal will enhance the competencies of about four lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks and departmental employees. It will enable all the trainees to access the uniform standardized training content online or in blended campus mode.
- On successful completion of the final summative assessment, a system-generated course completion certificate will be sent to the trainee’s registered email ID automatically.
Deregulation Of Domestically Produced Crude Oil
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs CCEA also approved deregulation of the sale of domestically produced crude oil.
- Mr. Thakur said, the move will ensure marketing freedom for all exploration and production companies. The condition in the Production Sharing Contracts to sell crude oil to the Government or its Nominee or Government Companies shall accordingly be waived off.
- All exploration and production companies will now be free to sell crude oil from their fields in the domestic market. Government revenues like Royalty, cess, etc. will continue to be calculated on a uniform basis across all Contracts. As earlier, exports will not be permissible.
- This decision will further spur economic activities, incentivize making investments in the upstream oil and gas sector and builds on a series of targeted transformative reforms rolled out since 2014.
- The policies relating to production, infrastructure and marketing of oil and gas have been made more transparent with a focus on ease of doing business and facilitating more operational flexibility to operators or industry.
Turkey For Sweden & Finland’s Membership Of NATO
- NATO member Turkey has agreed to support Sweden and Finland’s membership in the alliance.
- It had initially opposed the Nordic countries’ bids to join.
- In a statement, NATO said, a trilateral deal had been reached at a meeting between Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Finland’s President Sauli Niinistö and the Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
- Foreign Ministers from the three countries signed a joint security pact that addressed Turkey’s concerns.
- NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg said Sweden agreed to step up its work on Turkish extradition requests of suspected militants.
- The two Nordic nations will also lift their restrictions on selling weapons to Turkey, he said.
- Sweden and Finland had historically declined to seek NATO membership, partly because of mixed public opinion and caution around their security relationship with Russia.
- However, that dramatically changed after Russia launched a military operation on Ukraine in February.
Iran Applies For BRICS Group Of Emerging Countries
- Iran has submitted an application to become a member of the BRICS, an Iranian official said yesterday. Iran, which holds the world’s second-largest gas reserves, wants to join the BRICS group of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
- The term BRIC was coined by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill in 2001 to describe the startling rise of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. The BRIC powers had their first summit in 2009 in Russia. South Africa joined in 2010.
- Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said that Tehran’s membership in the BRICS group would result in added values for both sides. Russia said Argentina had also applied to join.
- Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, currently in Europe, has in recent days reiterated his desire for Argentina to join BRICS.
- China has by far the largest economy in the BRICS grouping, accounting for more than 70 of the group’s collective 27.5 trillion US dollars in economic might. India accounts for about 13 percent, with Russia and Brazil each accounting for about seven percent, according to IMF data.
- BRICS account for more than 40 percent of the world’s population and about 26 percent of the global economy.
