Assassination of President Jovenel Moïse

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse and the attack on First Lady Martine Moïse of Haiti.
  • A 28-member hit squad made up of Americans and Colombians assassinated President Jovenel Moise, Haitian police said on July 8, adding that eight were still at large.
  • He took office on February 7, 2017 but has presided over a deteriorating political and security situation with gangs running rampant and constant political tensions.
  • Joseph, the interim prime minister, has declared a “state of siege” in the country, giving himself increased powers for a 15-day period.

GIS Enabled Land Bank Gaining Popularity

  • A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying data related to positions on Earth’s surface. GIS can show many kinds of data on one map, such as streets, buildings, and vegetation.
  • Website has seen a 30% increase in page views each month since April 2021.
  • The India Industrial Land Bank (IILB) is a GIS-based portal – a one-stop repository of all industrial infrastructure-related information – connectivity, infra, natural resources & terrain, plot-level information on vacant plots, line of activity, and contact details.
  • Currently, the IILB has approximately 4000 industrial parks mapped across an area of 5.5 lakh hectare of land, serving as a decision support system for investors scouting for land remotely.
  • The system has been integrated with industry-based GIS systems of 17 states to have details on the portal updated on a real-time basis and will achieve pan-India integration by December 2021.

Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) Relocated

  • The government reallocated the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) to the finance ministry from the ministry of heavy industries.
  • The Finance Ministry will now have six departments besides economic affairs, revenue, expenditure, financial services and Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).
  • DPE is the nodal department for all the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and formulates policy pertaining to CPSEs.
  • CPSEs are those companies in which the direct holding of the Central Government or other CPSEs is 51% or more.

India Rejects OIC’s Proposal

  • Ministry of External Affairs rejected the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) proposal to assist a dialogue between India and Pakistan.
  • OIC: It is the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations (UN) with a membership of 57 states.
  • It is the collective voice of the Muslim world. It endeavours to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.
  • India is not a member of the OIC.

The Ramayana of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has received the first copy of the book, ‘The Ramayana of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’ penned by Late Mrs. Baljit Kaur Tulsi Ji, who is the mother of noted lawyer Shri KTS Tulsi Ji.
  • Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh guru re-wrote a new version of Hindu mythological epic Ramayana (Govind Ramayana) which formed part of the Dasam Granth, a Sikh religious text.
  • Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708 C.E.) is the tenth and last Sikh Guru after his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He had declared the Holy Scriptures of Guru Granth Sahib as the permanent guru of Sikhism.
  • Guru Gobind Singh Ji introduced the five ‘K’s that the Sikhs abide by: Kesh: Uncut hair, Kangha: A wooden comb, Kirpan: A dagger, Kacchera: Short breeches, Kara: An iron or steel bracelet worn on the wrist.
