World Radio Day

  • World Radio Day is an international day celebrated on 13 February each year.
  • The Day was decided by UNESCO on 3 November 2011 during its 36th conference.
  • The theme of the 2022 edition of World Radio Day is thus devoted to “Radio and Trust”.
  • On the occasion of World Radio Day 2022, UNESCO calls on radio stations worldwide to celebrate this event’s 11th edition and more than a century of radio.

Industrialist Rahul Bajaj Passes Away

  • Rahul Bajaj (10 June 1938 – 12 February 2022) was an Indian billionaire businessman.
  • He was the chairman emeritus of the Indian conglomerate Bajaj Group.
  • Bajaj was awarded the third-highest civilian award Padma Bhushan in 2001.
  • Bajaj was born on 10 June 1938, to Kamalnayan Bajaj and Savitri Bajaj.
  • He was the grandson of Indian independence fighter, Jamnalal Bajaj, who was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Bajaj was an alumnus of Harvard Business School in the US, St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, Government Law College, Mumbai and Cathedral, and John Connon School.

APEDA Celebrates 36th Foundation Day

  • Agricultural Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) celebrated its 36th Foundation Day today. APEDA actively supported the Government in taking the export of agricultural products to USD 20.67 billion in 2020-21 from USD 0.6 billion in 1986 when it was founded.  APEDA also helped expand the export basket to 205 countries.
  • Exports of agricultural and processed food products through APEDA rise from USD 9 billion in 2000-2001 to USD 20.67 billion in 2020-21
  • Exports of agricultural and processed food products through APEDA expected to exceed the target of US 23.7 billion in the current fiscal
  • Leverages Information Technology to improve traceability of export products
  • Transforms landlocked Purvanchal region into an agri-export hub
  • Centre focusing on stepping up the export of locally sourced Geographical Indications (GI) tagged, indigenous, ethnic agricultural products
  • GOI placing special emphasis on promoting Ease of Doing Business

17th Mumbai International Film Festival

  • 17th edition of Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation films (MIFF-2022) will be held from 29 May to 4 June, 2022 at the Films Division complex, Mumbai.
  • Films completed between 1st September 2019 and 31st December 2021 are eligible for entry in MIFF-2022. The Best Documentary of the Festival will receive a Golden Conch and    Rs.10 lakhs cash award. The winning films in different categories will receive handsome cash awards, Silver Conches, Trophies, and Certificates. As India is celebrating “Azadi ka Amrit  Mahotsav”,  the current edition has instituted a  special award for Best Short Film on the theme,  India@75.  The festival will also honor a veteran personality from the Indian non-feature film fraternity with the prestigious V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award carrying a cash component of Rs. 10 lakhs, a trophy, and citation.
  • The oldest and largest festival for non-feature films in South Asia, MIFF, organized by Films Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and supported by the Government of Maharashtra, attracts filmmakers from all over the world. Apart from the competition and non-competition sections, interactive sessions like workshops, masterclasses, open forums, and B2B sessions are major highlights of the festival.
  • The response to the 16th edition of the biennial MIFF held in 2020 was overwhelming, signifying a vibrant documentary culture in India and the world. The 16th MIFF received a record 871 entries from India and abroad and was attended by several prominent documentaries, animation, and short filmmakers from India and other parts of the world. The grand jury comprised eminent film personalities from France, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Bulgaria, and India.

Operation AAHT

  • Railway Protection Force (RPF) has launched a nationwide operation to curb human trafficking.
  • As part of “Operation AAHT”, special teams will be deployed on all long-distance trains/routes with a focus on rescuing victims, particularly women and children, from the clutches of traffickers.
  • The National Crime Records Bureau registers about 2,200 cases of Human Trafficking cases on an average each year.
  • Under Operation AAHT, the infrastructure and intelligence network of the force could be utilised to collect, collate, and analyse clues on victims, source, route, destination, popular trains used by suspects, the identity of carriers/agents, kingpins etc and shared with other law-enforcing agencies.
  • Under this, the RPF could act as a bridge cutting across States to assist the local police in the mission to curb the menace.

National Award For IGPEA

  • Ministry of Education presented the 5th National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration (IGPEA).
  • The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) has instituted the National Award for IGPEA for District and Block Level Education Officers.
  • NIEPA, under the Ministry of Education, is a premier organization dealing with capacity building and research in planning and management of education not only in India but also in South Asia.
  • It was launched by NIEPA in 2014 with an aim to encourage innovations and good practices in educational administration at grassroot level for improving the functioning of the public system of education.
