Rajiv Kumar To Be New Chief ECI

  • Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will be the new Chief Election Commissioner of India. President Ram Nath Kovind has cleared his appointment.
  • In a tweet, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that Mr. Kumar, the senior-most Election Commissioner,  will assume the charge of office of CEC with effect from 15th of this month.
  • He will replace incumbent  Chief Election Commissioner  Sushil Chandra who will be demitting the office on 14th of this month.

Utkarsh Samaroh

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually addressed ‘Utkarsh Samaroh’ held at Bharuch in Gujarat. The programme has organized to mark the celebration of 100 percent saturation of four key schemes of the state government in the district. These will help in providing timely financial assistance to those in need.
  • Bharuch district administration has carried out ‘Utkarsh Initiative’ drive to ensure complete coverage of schemes providing assistance to widows, elderly and destitute citizens. A total of 12,854 beneficiaries were identified across the four schemes, which include Ganga Swaroopa Aarthik Sahay Yojana, Indira Gandhi Vrudh Sahay Yojana, Niradhar Vrudh Aarthik Sahay Yojana and Rashtriy Kutumb Sahay Yojana.
  • During the drive from January to March this year, taluka-wise Whatsapp helpline numbers were announced to collect information about those who were not receiving benefits of the scheme. Utkarsh camps were organized in all villages and wards of municipality areas of the district, to collect the necessary documents for on the spot approval. Incentives were also given to Utkarsh assistants to further facilitate the drive.

Noted Sanskrit Prof Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi Passes Away

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the demise of Sanskrit Grammarian, Prof Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi known as Vagish Shastri.
  • In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, Prof Bhagirath Prasad made priceless contributions in making Sanskrit more popular among the youth using modern scientific methods.
  • The Prime Minister said, he was extremely knowledgeable and well-read. He hailed from UP And was awarded Padma Shri in 2018.

2nd Global COVID Virtual Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 2nd Global COVID Virtual Summit at the invitation of the US President Joseph Biden. The summit intends to galvanize new actions to address the continued challenges of the COVID pandemic and build a stronger global health security architecture.
  • India is playing a key role in ongoing global efforts to combat the pandemic by supplying safe and affordable vaccines, medicines, development of low cost indigenous technologies and capacity building for health care workers. It is also pro-actively engaged in multilateral fora with the objective of strengthening and reforming the global health security architecture with World Health Organization at its centre.
  • Prime Minister Modi delivers his address in the opening session of the summit on the theme – Preventing Pandemic Fatigue and Prioritizing Preparedness. Mr Modi had also participated in the first Global COVID Virtual Summit hosted by President Biden in September last year.

40 Digital Services In Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

  • The National Health Authority, under its flagship scheme Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, has announced successful integration of additional 13 digital health solutions in the mission in the last three months.
  • With this, so far 40 digital health service applications have been successfully integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission since the national launch was announced in September last year. Union Health Ministry in a statement said that the ABDM partners ecosystem now consists of 16 government applications and 24 private sector applications.
  • The integration is a technical collaboration between ABDM and health tech service providers that will help bridge the existing gap among different digital platforms, user applications and stakeholders in the digital health space.
  • NHA is also organizing an Integrators Convention in New Delhi on Friday to have a direct interaction session with these 40 integrators to seek suggestions for improvement and simplification of the ABDM Integration process.

Telangana Govt To Serve Meals At Rs 5 @ Hospitals

  • The Telangana state government will be serving meals at a cost of 5 rupees for those who are accompanying patients in 18 government hospitals in Hyderabad from today. Nutritious and hygienic food will be served three-times for Rs. 5 per meal to an estimated 20,000 patient attenders at these hospitals, on daily basis.
  • The Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) will implement the scheme with the help of Hare Krishna Movement (HKM). The meal will cost of 26.25 rupees, of which the attenders of patients will pay 5 rupees while the rest of the subsidy amount of 21.25 rupees per meal will be borne by the government.

Jyothi Yarraji Clinches Gold Medal In 100m Hurdles

  • In Cyprus International Athletics Meeting 2022, India’s Jyothi Yarraji smashed the national record to clinch a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles in Limassol yesterday. 22-year-old Jyothi clocked 13.23 seconds for the top step of the podium, shattering the 20-year-old national record held by Anuradha Biswal since 2002. With this, Jyothi also breached the Asian Games 2022 qualifying standards of 13.30 seconds.
  • Another Indian athlete Lili Das won gold in the women’s 1500 meter race. While in the men’s 200m, India’s Amlan Borgohain won bronze medal.

‘Vehicle-To-Everything’ Communication Technology

  • IIT Hyderabad (IITH), Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan (SMC), Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) have jointly taken up research in India-specific vehicle usage scenarios based on futuristic V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication technology.
  • The V2X communications technology, when used in conjunction with appropriate infrastructure, traffic rules, and driver education, can help reduce traffic accidents and traffic congestions. The first-of-its-kind 5 prototype vehicles showcasing the experimental applications in the Indian context were displayed at the IIT Hyderabad campus yesterday.
  • Ambulance Alerting System, Wrong-way Driver Alerting system, Motorcycle Alerting System, and Road Condition Alerting System are among the systems that have been demonstrated on the occasion.
