Fintech Open Hackathon

  • NITI Aayog in association with PhonePe will launch the Fintech Open Hackathon. The Hackathon will provide an opportunity for innovators, digital creators, and developers from all over India to think, ideate and code.
  • It aims to showcase path-breaking solutions for the Fintech Ecosystem. The last date to register for the event is 23rd February and the deadline to submit the final entries is on 25th February this year.
  • The winners of the Hackathon will be announced on the 28th of this month.

Arif Khan Shines Bright At Men’s Giant Slalom Event

  • India got it’s best ever finish in Men’s Giant Slalom event at the ongoing Winter Olympics in Beijing as Indian alpine skier Mohammad Arif Khan secured 45th position after a challenging second run today.
  • After clocking 2:47.24 seconds in the second run of the event, Arif earlier finished at 46th spot, but after the disqualification of an athlete, the Indian athlete position was revised to 45th rank.
  • Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt won the Gold medal with 2:09.35 seconds.
  • The Indian Alpine Skier had finished on 53rd position in the event’s first run. Amid tough conditions, Arif was amongst the 54 competitors out of 89 who could successfully finish the first run of Men’s Giant slalom.
  • Arif clocked 1:22.35 seconds in the first run at the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre, 19.42s behind leader Marco Odermatt of Switzerland. The Jammu and Kashmir-born skier made his Winter Games debut at the event.

Green Hydrogen Policy

  • Ministry of Power has notified Green Hydrogen/ Green Ammonia Policy for production of Green Hydrogen or Green Ammonia using renewable sources of energy. Hydrogen and Ammonia are envisaged to be the future fuels to replace fossil fuels. Production of these fuels by using power from renewable energy termed green hydrogen and green ammonia is one of the major requirements towards environmentally sustainable energy security of the nation.
  • The government is taking various measures to facilitate the transition from fossil fuel and fossil fuel-based feedstocks to green hydrogen and green ammonia. The notification of this policy is one of the major steps in this endeavour.
  • The implementation of this policy will provide clean fuel to the common people of the country. This will reduce dependence on fossil fuels and also reduce crude oil imports.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Hydrogen Mission on India’s 75th Independence Day last year. The Mission aims to aid the government in meeting its climate targets and making India a green hydrogen hub.
  • This will help in meeting the target of production of 5 million tonnes of Green hydrogen by 2030 and the related development of renewable energy capacity.

MoU Signed For Promotion Of Domestic Tourism

  • Tourism Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alliance Air Aviation Limited to boost cooperation for the promotion and marketing of domestic tourism throughout the country.
  • Alliance Air is the front runner in promoting the Regional Connectivity Scheme of the government which is being promoted under the scheme UDAN – (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik).
  • The MoU was signed with a view to achieving the common purpose of joint domestic promotion and considering the need to synergize the activities of the Ministry of Tourism and Alliance Air Aviation Limited in the tourism markets.

PM Modi To Dedicate 2 Additional Railway Lines

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the Nation two additional railway lines connecting Thane and Diva tomorrow via video conferencing. He will also flag off two suburban trains of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, followed by his address on the occasion.
  • The two additional railway lines connecting Thane and Diva have been built at an approximate cost of 620 crore rupees. It features 1.4 km long rail flyover, 3 major bridges and 21 minor bridges.
  • These lines will significantly remove the interference of long-distance train’s traffic with suburban train’s traffic in Mumbai. These lines will also enable the introduction of 36 new suburban trains in the city.

Start-ups In Space Sector

  • Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has said that after the unlocking of the Space Sector for private players, innovative Start-Ups are coming in a big way to explore the untapped potential. He was presiding over a high-level joint meeting of all the Science Ministries and Science Departments at Prithvi Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • Dr Singh said, more than 50 Start-ups are working in the Space Sector and about ten of them are having funding of over 50 crore rupees.
  • The Minister said, Start-ups are also working on software solutions for debris management in Space having global ramifications. He informed that so far 38 Ministries in the government have sought technology support in different sectors.
  • Dr Singh said, over 200 proposals and requirements were received from 38 Line Ministries and Departments for Scientific Applications and Technological Support and solutions.
