Telangana Formation Day

  • TThe state of Telangana was officially formed on 2 June 2014.
  • Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao was elected as the first chief minister of Telangana, following elections in which the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party secured a majority.
  • On 1 July 2013, the Congress Working Committee unanimously passed a resolution to recommend the formation of a separate Telangana state. After various stages, the bill was placed in the Parliament of India in February 2014.
  • In February 2014, Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 bill was passed by the Parliament of India for the formation of Telangana state comprising ten districts from north-western Andhra Pradesh.
  • The bill received the assent of the President and was published in the gazette on 1 March 2014.

National Education Ministers’ Conference

  • The two-day National Education Ministers’ Conference begins in Gandhinagar Gujarat today. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated this conference which is being participated by other Union Ministers and Education Ministers of States and Union Territories.
  • Speaking on this occasion, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the deliberations during this two-day conference will help in implementing and enhancing the vision of the National Education Policy- 2020. He said that the deliberations will also help in strengthening the education ecosystem in the country.
  • Mr. Pradhan said that National Education Policy 2020 is focusing on skilling in schools and digital initiatives like National Digital Education Architecture and National Educational Technology Forum.
  • Mr. Pradhan said that Gujarat is an example of leveraging technology to minimize non-academic work of teachers’, strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills, ensure holistic evaluation of students and teachers, which are cultivating and ensure a more vibrant teaching and learning environment. He said that the Vidhya Samiksha Kendra VSK is a futuristic initiative to further personalized & child-centric learning.

Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 Campaign

  • Two-month long Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0 gets underway.
  • The objective of this mega Covid vaccination drive is to achieve optimal coverage among all eligible beneficiaries and accelerate the pace of vaccination.
  • The campaign will continue till the 31st of July this year, across all States and Union Territories.
  • The Union Health Ministry said that COVID-19 vaccination of all beneficiaries due for the second dose and eligible for precaution dose would be emphasized through a door-to-door vaccination drive.
  • Vaccination coverage of children aged 12 to 18 years will also be undertaken through a school-based campaign.
  • Emphasis will be given to focused campaigns in old age homes, schools, colleges, prisons and brick kilns among others.

PMBI Of PMBJP Crosses Rs 100 Cr Sales In May

  • Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has for the first time ever crossed 100 crore rupees sales this month. The government has set a target to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by March 2024 with a vision to provide quality medicines at an affordable rate for the common man, especially the poor. More than 15,000 crore rupees have been saved by the general public under this Pariyojana in the last five years.
  • Under the PMBJP, 739 districts of the country have been covered. PMBI is committed to ensuring the uninterrupted availability of essential medicines at the PMBJKs. In its journey of the last eight years, starting from the annual turnover of eight crore rupees in the year 2014-15, PMBI has clocked its highest monthly sales turnover of  100 crore rupees this month. At present, these Kendras make available more than 1,600 medicines and 250 surgical devices including nutraceuticals, Ayush products and Suvidha Sanitary pads which are sold at one rupee per pad.
  • Under PMBJP, new applications have also been invited to cover 3,579 blocks of 406 districts to provide quality generic medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras to every citizen of the country. Residents of small towns and block headquarters can now avail the opportunity to open Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The scheme provides for incentives of five lakh rupees and special incentives of up to two lakh rupees for various categories including women, SC/ST, Hill districts, Island districts and the North-Eastern States.
  • Accordingly, PMBI has strengthened the supply chain system by setting up of four warehouses at Gurugram, Chennai, Guwahati and Surat. In addition, there is a strong distributor network of 39 distributors across country for timely supplies.

NHA Launches Public Dashboard For ABDM

  • The National Health Authority under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has launched a public dashboard for real-time information on the scheme.
  • The ABDM public dashboard displays detailed information on the core registries under the mission – Ayushman Bharat Health Account numbers, Health care Professionals Registry and Health Facility Registry.
  • As per the dashboard, the total number of Ayushman Bharat Health Account numbers created are over 22 crore and over 16.6 thousand health care professionals have registered in the Health care Professionals Registry.
  • Chief Executive Officer of National Health Authority Dr. R.S. Sharma said – Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is built on the principles of accessibility, transparency, inclusivity and inter-operability.
  • The ABDM public dashboard puts the updated information related to the scheme in the public domain to ensure all stakeholders have access to the data in a transparent manner.

Indo-Bangla Mitali Express flagged off

  • Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bangladesh’s Railway Minister Mohammad Nurul Islam Sujon flagged off Mitali Express between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka via video conferencing.
  • The Dhaka-Jalpaiguri Mitali Express is the third Bangladesh-India passenger train service.
  • The train will use the Chilahati-Haldibari rail link and will run from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, India, to Dhaka Cantonment railway station in Bangladesh, covering 513km.
  • Mitali Express will run two days a week on Sunday and Wednesday from New Jalpaiguri Junction and from Dhaka Cantonment the train will run every Monday and Thursday.
  • The non-stop passenger train with ten compartments, Mitali Express, was inaugurated by the prime ministers of both countries on March 26 last year. Both the ministers said, the commencement of Mitali Express will further flourish the relationship for trade and travel between the two neighbours, improving accessibility and connectivity.
  • The fully air-conditioned biweekly train Mitali Express will connect North-East India with Bangladesh providing the people of Bangladesh easy access to tourist destinations across Northeast India.

Indian Women’s Shooting Team Bags Gold Medal @ ISSF

  • Indian women’s shooting team of Elavenil Valarivan, Shreya Agarwal and Ramita have bagged a gold medal for India in the 10m air rifle women’s team event at the ISSF World Cup 2022 in Baku.
  • This was India’s first medal at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Baku yesterday. The trio from India defeated Denmark 17-5 in the gold medal match. Tokyo Olympian Elavenil Valarivan shot above 10 in all the 11 series’ in the final.

India And Pak Hold Routine Talks On PIC

  • The 118th meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission (PIC) comprising of Indus Commissioners of India and Pakistan was held in New Delhi.
  • MEA said, the meeting was held in a cordial manner. The Commission appreciated the commitment of the two sides to interact frequently and resolve issues through bilateral discussions under the Indus Water Treaty.
  • During the two-day meeting, the annual report of the PIC was finalised and signed.
