Kathakali Dancer Milena Salvini is No More
- Milena Salvini is an Italian-born French exponent and teacher of Indian classical dance. Especially known for her services to Kathakali, in 2019 she was awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri.
- In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, Milena Salvini will be remembered for her passion for Indian culture. She made numerous efforts to further popularise Kathakali across France. The Prime Minister said, his thoughts are with her family and well-wishers.
Drone Certification Scheme
- Government has notified a drone certification scheme to make the certification of drones simpler, faster, and transparent. In a tweet, Civil Aviation Ministry said, along with the liberalized drone rules, airspace map, the PLI scheme, and the single window Digital Sky Platform, will help the drone manufacturing industry in India. It said this is another step in making India the drone hub of the world by 2030.
- The Government has been working to establish a world-leading drone ecosystem in India, which will create the physical and digital infrastructure to support safe, efficient, and secure access to the Indian airspace by millions of drones. Drone technology is evolving daily with new improvements coming on a rapid scale. The drones offer tremendous benefits to almost every sector of the economy, including agriculture, infrastructure, emergency response, transportation, and geospatial mapping. The Ministry said the Centre has formulated the Digital Sky Platform for registration and operation of drones with an all-digital process. The users are required to complete a one-time registration for their drones, pilots, and owners. For every flight that a user wishes to embark in a yellow or red zone, they can request permission to fly online.
First India-central Asia Summit
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosting the first meeting of the India-Central Asia Summit in a virtual format on Thursday. Presidents of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan will participate. Mr. Modi had paid a historic visit to all Central Asian countries in 2015. Subsequently, there have been exchanges at high levels at bilateral and multilateral forums. The Summit is symbolic of the importance attached by the Leaders of India and the Central Asian countries to a comprehensive and enduring India-Central Asia partnership.
- This will be the first engagement of its kind between India and the Central Asian countries at the level of leaders. The summit reflects India’s growing engagement with the Central Asian countries, which are a part of India’s extended neighborhood. During the Summit, the leaders are expected to discuss steps to take forward India-Central Asia relations to newer heights. They are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of interest, especially the evolving regional security situation.
Republic Day Celebrated Across World By Indian Missions And Diaspora
- The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated across the world by Indian Missions and Diaspora. On this occasion, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the foreign missions organized various events and cultural performances. Indian Diaspora across the world participated in these events with great zeal and enthusiasm.
- A friendly cricket match was also played between India and Australia High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa as part of National Day celebrations. Notably, India’s Republic Day and Australia’s National Day falling on 26th January. The High Commission to Brunei celebrated the 73rd Republic Day today morning at the Chancery premises. Despite heavy torrential rains, more than 100 members of the Indian Diaspora and friends of India attended the function.
- On the occasion, at the Indian High Commission to New Zealand, High Commissioner Muktesh Pardeshi launched a handbook titled Exporting to New Zealand. The report has been prepared jointly by High Commission to New Zealand and Duco Consultancy.
- On the eve of the 73rd Republic Day, the majestic Baths of Diocletian, dating back to the IV Century in Rome, is illuminated with tricolor lighting. Chancery and India House were also illuminated and looked resplendent in tricolor at Atlanta.
- Angola Embassy lighted up in tricolor to celebrate 73rd Republic Day of India which also celebrates the ongoing ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. From members of the Congress to industry leaders, from scientists and educators to Diaspora and students, greetings poured in on social media platform Twitter from the United States.
Piyush Goyal Reviews Pace of Implementation of Infrastructure Projects Through PMG Portal
- Union Minister Piyush Goyal reviewed the pace of implementation of infrastructure projects being monitored through Project Monitoring Group, PMG, a portal in New Delhi today.
- The Minister emphasized the need to address the issues being faced by implementing agencies on priority to ensure the timely completion of projects. PMG portal of Invest India is a unique institutional mechanism to facilitate resolution of bottlenecks in infrastructure projects with investments upward of 500 rupees crores and do milestone-based project monitoring of the same.
- Presently, PMG is monitoring one thousand 351 under implementation projects with a total anticipated investment of approximately 48.94 lakh crore.
- In yesterday’s review meeting, Mr. Goyal directed that regular meetings be held with State Governments and Central Ministries to ensure timely resolution of issues. Since 1st April last year, 389 issues have been resolved and 22 meetings have been conducted with Central Ministries and State Governments by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, DPIIT.
US Warns Belarus Against Assisting Russia
- The United States warned Belarus that its authoritarian government will also face reprisals if it assists ally Russia in invading neighboring Ukraine.
- State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters that they have made clear to Belarus that if it allows its territory to be used for an attack on Ukraine, it will face a swift and decisive response from the United States and its allies and partners.
- Price said that if an invasion were to proceed from Belarus, if Russian troops were to permanently station on their territory, NATO will have to reassess its own force posture in the countries that border Belarus.
- The longtime strongman of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, is an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
