Rajnath Singh Undertakes Sea Sortie On Stealth Submarine ‘INS Khanderi’ At Karwar

  • Rajnath Singh, on May 27, 2022, conducted a sea sortie on one of the most potent platforms of Indian Navy ‘INS Khanderi’ during his visit to Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka. The Raksha Mantri was given a first-hand insight into the combat capabilities and offensive strength of the state-of-the-art Kalvari class submarine.
  • The Raksha Mantri described ‘INS Khanderi’ as a shining example of the ‘Make in India’ capabilities of the country. He appreciated the fact that 39 of the 41 ships/submarines ordered by the Indian Navy are being built in Indian shipyards.

Symbol Of Fallen Soldiers Of 1971 War, Shifted By Armed Forces From India Gate To NWM

  • Armed Forces in a ceremony shifted the Inverted Rifle and the Helmet from India Gate, which was the symbol of Fallen Soldiers of 1971 War, to Param Yodha Sthal at National War Memorial and installed the same in the midst of Busts of Param Vir Chakra Awardees.
  • With this ceremony, the integration of the Memorial of Fallen Soldiers of 1971 war with the National War Memorial has been completed.
  • The Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate was merged with the eternal flame at the National War Memorial (NWM) in January.
  • The NWM is around 400 metres away from the India Gate.
  • The Amar Jawan Jyoti was constructed as a memorial for Indian soldiers who were killed in action in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, which India won, leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

Seven Army Personnel Killed As Bus Carrying 26 Falls Into Gorge In Ladakh

  • Seven Army soldiers were killed, and 19 others were injured when the bus they were traveling on skidded off the road and fell 50-60ft in the Shyok river in Ladakh.
    • The injured personnel were initially taken to the 403 Field Hospital at Partapur. Surgical teams from Leh moved to Partapur to provide the necessary care.
    • Dedicated efforts are underway to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured, including requisition of air effort from the Air Force to shift the more serious casualties to Western Command.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the families of the seven killed in the road accident and said that all possible assistance is being given to those affected.

Defence ministry extends clearance with one-year validity to telcos for laying, maintaining undersea cables

  • The defence ministry has extended clearance with one-year validity to telecom companies for laying and maintaining undersea cables, the Department of Telecom.
  • Earlier, telecom operators were required to seek clearance every six months for vessels and ships required for laying and maintaining undersea cables that are vital for internet and international telecom services.
  • “In the interest of ease of doing business, DoT took up the case with MoD (Ministry of Defence) to extend period of their clearance from the present six months to one year.
  • International long-distance services operators are required to take clearance from the defence ministry for ships and vessels and from the home ministry for crew members to be involved in the process.
  • The home ministry has already been issuing clearance with one-year validity.

Japanese Government to allow Export of Fighter Jets, Missiles to India and other countries

  • The Japanese government plans to allow exports of fighter jets, missiles and other arms to 12 countries, including India, Australia as well as some European and Southeast Asian nations, Nikkei has learned. Regulatory changes to allow for the exports could come by next March.

Use Of Drones Will Increase In Defence Sector: PM Modi at Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022

  • Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. In the drone exhibition centre, he interacted with kisan drone pilots and witnessed open-air drone demos.
  • The Bharat Drone Mahotsav is a two-day event that will take place on May 27 and 28. The Mahotsav will be attended by around 1,600 delegates, including government officials, foreign diplomats, military forces, central armed police forces, PSUs, private firms, and drone startups, among others.
  • According to a July 2021 report by BIS Research, the global drone market, which is currently dominated by the US, China and Israel, is estimated to reach US$ 28.47 billion in FY21-22, with India likely to account for 4.25% share.
  • The drone services industry is expected to grow to over Rs 30,000 crore in next three years and generate over five lakh jobs, according to the government.
  • The Centre will also promote the use of ‘Kisan Drones’ for crop assessment, digitization of land records and spraying of insecticides.
  • Indian drone industry will have a total turnover of up to Rs 15,000 crore by 2026. At that time, Indian drone manufacturing companies had a turnover of approximately Rs 80 crore.
