International Day Of Innocent Children Victims Of Aggression

  • International Day Of Innocent Children Victims Of Aggression Is A United Nations Observance Held On June 4 Every Year.
  • It Was Established On 19 August 1982.
  • Originally Focused On Victims Of The 1982 Lebanon War, Its Purpose Expanded To “Acknowledge The Pain Suffered By Children Throughout The World Who Are The Victims Of Physical, Mental, And Emotional Abuse.
  • This Day Affirms The UN’s Commitment To Protecting The Rights Of Children.”

World Environment Day

  • World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
  • First held in 1973, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, Alien overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption, and wildlife crime.
  • World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually.
  • Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non-government organizations, communities, governments, and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.
  • The theme for this year’s celebration of World Environment Day is ‘Only One Earth.’ This was also the slogan for the 1972 conference at Stockholm which led to the birth of the annual global event on June 5.

Fight Against Illegal, Unreported & Unregulated Fishing

  • International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing is observed on June 5. The day is observed to draw attention towards the issue of illegal fishing. Due to the illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing activities, every year a loss of 11-26 million tonnes of fish is reported, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) stated.
  • The 1995 FAO Conference also adopted the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries in order “to promote long-term conservation and sustainable use of fisheries resources.”
  • “The Code is voluntary and sets out principles and international standards of behaviour for responsible practices with a view to ensuring the effective conservation, management and development of living aquatic resources, with due respect for the ecosystem and biodiversity,” the UN website stated

Russian Language Day

  • UN Russian Language Day is observed annually on June 6.
  • The event was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010. UN Russian Language Day coincides with the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, a Russian poet who is considered the father of the modern Russian language.
  • The initiative of the UN Language Days was launched in February 2010 in order to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and to promote equal use of all six of the UN’s official working languages throughout the organization.

World Food Safety Day

  • World Food Safety Day on 7 June aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other relevant organizations.
  • This international day is an opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe, mainstream food safety in the public agenda and reduce the burden of foodborne diseases globally.
  • The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that June 7 would be regarded as World Food Safety Day every year

S N Bose Remembered For Bose-Einstein Condensate

  • Satyendra Nath Bose Was An Indian Mathematician And Physicist Specializing In Theoretical Physics.
  • He Is Best Known For His Work On Quantum Mechanics In The Early 1920s, In Developing The Foundation For Bose Statistics And The Theory Of The Bose Condensate.
  • A Fellow Of The Royal Society, He Was Awarded India’s Second-highest Civilian Award, The Padma Vibhushan, In 1954 By The Government Of India.
  • Satyendra Nath Bose, An Indian Scientist, And Mathematician Is Honored In Google’s Doodle For His Contribution To The Bose-Einstein Condensate.
  • He Delivered His Quantum Formulations To Albert Einstein On 04 June 1924, And Einstein Instantly Recognised It As A Key Quantum Mechanics Breakthrough.

World Oceans Day

  • World Oceans Day is an international day that takes place annually on 8 June. The concept was originally proposed in 1992 by Canada’s International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) at the Earth Summit – UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
  • “World Oceans Day” was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008.
  • The international day supports the implementation of worldwide Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fosters public interest in the protection of the ocean and the sustainable management of its resources.
  • The 2022 Theme For The World Ocean Day Is Revitalization: Collective Action For The Ocean: “Shedding Light On The Communities, Ideas, And Solutions That Are Working Together To Protect And Revitalize The Ocean And Everything It Sustains.”

Santoor Maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori Passes Away

  • Renowned Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori passed away in Gurugram. He was 74. He was suffering from colon cancer.
  • He was the former Director of Music at All India Radio and looked after Hindustani Classical Music.
  • Along with Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, he is credited to have brought the santoor, a lesser-known Kashmiri instrument, into the global limelight.

PM Modi For “Save Soil Movement”

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends a programme on ‘Save Soil Movement’ at Vigyan Bhawan on World Environment Day. The Prime Minister also addressed the gathering during the programme.
  • ‘Save Soil Movement’ is a global movement to increase awareness about deteriorating soil health and bring about a conscious response to improve soil.
  • The movement was started by Sadhguru in March this year, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle journey passing through 27 countries. 5th June marks the 75th day of the 100-day journey.
  • Prime Minister’s participation in the programme will be reflective of the shared concerns and commitment towards improving the health of soil in the country.

Lifestyle For The Environment Movement

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a global initiative ‘Lifestyle for the Environment, LiFE. The program witnessed the participation of Bill Gates, Co-Chairman, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Climate Economist Lord Nicholas Stern, and other noted personalities. Prime Minister also delivered the keynote address during the program.
  • The launch will initiate the ‘LiFE Global Call for Papers’ inviting ideas and suggestions from academics, universities, and research institutions to influence and persuade individuals, communities, and organizations across the world to adopt an environmentally conscious lifestyle.
  • The idea of LiFE was introduced by Prime Minister Modi during the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties, COP26, in Glasgow last year. The idea promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle that focuses on ‘mindful and deliberate utilization’ instead of ‘mindless and destructive consumption.’
