Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojana
- the Ministry of Culture has launched a Scheme of Financial Assistance for the Development of Buddhist/Tibetan Culture and Art under “Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojana (KSVY)”.
- Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to the voluntary Buddhist and Tibetan Organizations including Monasteries engaged in the propagation and scientific development of Buddhist/ Tibetan Culture and tradition, located in any part of the country. The quantum of funding is Rs.30 lakhs per year for an organization.
- KSVY is an umbrella scheme under the Ministry of Culture for the promotion of art and culture in the country. It is a central sector scheme.
- The ministry implements many schemes under KSVY, where the grants are sanctioned/approved for holding programs/activities.
- Scheme of Financial Assistance for Promotion of Art and Culture.
- Scheme of Financial Assistance for Creation of Cultural Infrastructure.
- Scheme for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which aims to promote the 13 intangible cultural heritage of India, recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
R. Venkataraman Remembered on His Jayanthi
- Ramaswamy Venkataraman (4 December 1910 – 27 January 2009) was an Indian lawyer, Indian independence activist and politician who served as a Union Minister and as the eighth president of India.
- Venkataraman was born in Raja madam village in Tanjore district, Madras Presidency. He studied law and practised in the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
- In his young age, he was an activist of the Indian independence movement and participated in the Quit India Movement.
- He was appointed as the member of the Constituent Assembly and the provisional cabinet. He was elected to the Lok Sabha four times and served as Union Finance Minister and Defence Minister.
- In 1984, he was elected as the seventh vice president of India and in 1987, he became the eighth President of India and served from 1987 to 1992. He also served as a state minister under K. Kamaraj and M. Bhaktavatsalam.
Navy Day Celebrated Across India
- Navy Day in India is celebrated on 4 December every year to recognize the achievements and role of the Indian Navy to the country. 4 December was chosen as on that day in 1971, during Operation Trident, the Indian Navy sank four Pakistani vessels including PNS Khaibar, killing hundreds of Pakistani Navy personnel. On this day, those killed in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 are also remembered.

- During the days leading up to Navy Day, during Navy Week and the days prior to that, various events take place such as an open sea swimming competition, ships are open for visitors and school children, there is a veteran sailor’s lunch, performances by the Naval Symphonic Orchestra take place, an Indian Navy Inter School Quiz Competition happens, a Navy Half Marathon as well as an air display for school children and the beating retreat and tattoo ceremonies happen.
Exercise EKUVERIN
- 11th Edition of Exercise EKUVERIN between India & Maldives will be conducted at Kadhdhoo Island, Maldives from 06 to 19 December 2021.
- The exercise will enhance synergy & inter-operability between Armed Forces of both the Nations in terms of understanding transnational terrorism both on land & at sea, conducting Counter Terrorism & Counter Insurgency Operations and sharing best military practices and experiences.
- Besides rigorous training, the joint military exercise will also include cultural and sports activities to enhance defence cooperation and bilateral relations. The exercise will go a long way in strengthening India’s relations with Maldives amidst emerging security dynamics in the Indian Ocean Region.
5th Indian Ocean Conference
- External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has stressed on the importance of respecting and facilitating freedom of navigation and overflight and unimpeded commerce in a globalized world. He said this while addressing the fifth Indian Ocean Conference in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
- Dr Jaishankar stated that the consequences of China’s growing capabilities are profound because of the extrapolation of its domestic seamlessness to the world outside. He said as a result of this, there is now an ongoing debate on the changed nature of power and influence whether it is connectivity, technology, or trade.
- The Minister pointed out that two developments have significantly heightened uncertainties that the Indian Ocean countries contemplate. One is the American withdrawal from Afghanistan and the second is the impact of Covid on a region that is particularly vulnerable to health and economic stresses.
- He pointed out that Quad has developed a robust agenda covering many areas including maritime security, cyber security, climate action, vaccine collaboration, critical and emerging technologies, higher education, and resilient supply chains.
- The Minister held a meeting with his UAE counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the conference in Abu Dhabi. Dr Jaishankar also called on Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Golden Jubilee of UAE.
Mount Semeru in East Java Province erupted
- A volcano on the Indonesian island of Java has erupted, killing at least 13 people, and injuring nearly 100 others.
- It is located 130 kilometers south of Indonesia’s second-largest city, Surabaya. The authorities say, the volcano spewed smoke as high as 12,000 meters and lava flows reached more than 500 meters from the crater.
- Officials say, more than 900 residents have been evacuated but there are reportedly still a number of people left behind.
