The Indian Coast Guard celebrated a momentous occasion as the Passing Out Parade (POP) for the 78th and 79th batches of its officers took place at the Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters in Kochi. This ceremony marked the culmination of the ICG Law & Operations Course, signifying the transformation of the young cadets into commissioned officers, poised to protect and promote India’s maritime interests.
The parade was presided over by Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan, TM, who commands the Coast Guard Region (North East). During his address, IG Chauhan extended his congratulations to the officers for their commendable performance throughout the demanding training regimen. He underscored the paramount importance of the Indian Coast Guard’s role in not only securing maritime boundaries but also in conducting search and rescue operations, enforcing laws at sea, and protecting the marine environment.

Assistant Commandants Tulsidas Bharadwaj and Ravi Kumar were bestowed with the prestigious Director General’s Sword of Honour, awarded to the top performers in their respective batches. Following the parade, the newly commissioned officers will embark on a crucial phase of their careers: Watchkeeping Certification. This next step is essential as it equips them for pivotal roles involving maritime surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, search and rescue initiatives, and coastal defense activities. The hands-on experience they will gain onboard Indian Coast Guard vessels is vital for strengthening the country’s maritime security framework.
