COVID-19 Precautionary Dose Gap Reduced To 6 Months
- Covid precautionary dose to the eligible beneficiaries will now be administered after completion of six months from the date of administration of second dose.
- National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) has recommended revising the duration from exiting nine months to six months.
- Health and Family Welfare Ministry’s Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written a letter to all States and Union Territories in this regard.
- The Health Ministry said, corresponding changes have been made in the Cowin System to facilitate the new dispensation.
- It asked the States and Union Territories to extend the benefit of precaution dose to all beneficiaries, including people aged above 18 years, health care, and frontline workers during Har Ghar Dastak 2.0 Campaign.
Jaishankar Meets Chinese Counterpart Wang Yi In Bali
- External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar today met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Bali, Indonesia on the sidelines of the G-20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Dr. Jaishankar is on a two-day official visit to Bali to participate in the G-20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
- During the meeting with Mr Wang Yi, the External Affairs Minister called for an early resolution of all the outstanding issues along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh.
- Recalling the disengagement achieved in some friction areas, Dr Jaishankar reiterated the need to sustain the momentum to complete disengagement from all the remaining areas to restore peace and tranquility in the border areas.
- He also reaffirmed the importance of fully abiding by bilateral agreements and protocols and the understandings reached between the two Ministers during their previous conversations.
- In this regard, both the Ministers affirmed that the military and diplomatic officials of the two sides should continue maintaining regular contact and looked forward to the next round of Senior Commanders’ Meeting at an early date.
- Dr Jaishankar reiterated that the India-China relationship is best served by observing the three mutuals – mutual respect, mutual sensitivity, and mutual interests.
Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the first ‘Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture’ (AJML) in New Delhi.
- The Prime Minister will also address the gathering during the event. Department of Economic Affairs has organized the first ‘Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture’ in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the nation.
- The keynote address at the first ‘Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture’ will be delivered by Senior Minister of Government of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam on ‘Growth through Inclusivity, Inclusivity through Growth’.
- Prime Minister Modi will also interact with the delegates participating in the Kautilya Economic Conclave (KEC), a three-day event being organized.
Piyush Goyal Reviews Progress Of PM GatiShakti
- Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today reviewed the progress of PM GatiShakti at a meeting in New Delhi.
- The meeting reviewed the status of the National Master Plan since its launch on 13th October last year and discussed plans for faster integration of data into the portal.
- With over 900 data layers updated by Central Ministries and 316 essential layers by States and Union Territories, the meeting took note of various Ministries and Departments using the same to share their proposed projects after having been mapped and aligned digitally.
- Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Piyush Goyal said that under PM GatiShakti transformative approach, the government is committed to resolving user issues by overcoming various departmental silos. He added that its role through the National Master Plan and the Institutional Framework is essential to lay down the steppingstones to India’s multimodal infrastructure network.
- The meeting also acknowledged the progress made on state-level institutional arrangements. Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Anurag Jain informed that along with a functioning Empowered Group of Secretaries in 32 States and UTs, 29 among them have also been able to formulate their Network Planning Group and Technical Support Unit.
Hariyali Mahotsav
- Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry will organize Hariyali Mahotsav on the 8th of this month in New Delhi as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
- Plantation drives are being organized with the active participation of 75 Nagar Vans, 75 police stations and 75 schools in Delhi & NCR and 75 degraded plantation sites in different states as part of this Mahotsav.
- Hariyali Mahotsav is being organized to create awareness about the importance of trees for sustainable development.
Five-Day Hajj Pilgrimage In Saudi Arabia Started
- About one million pilgrims from across the world are converging at Mina in Saudi Arabia as the annual five-day Haj pilgrimage began today.
- More than 79 thousand pilgrims from India are participating in the pilgrimage after a gap of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
- The pilgrims began their journey from holy city of Mecca to assemble in Mina. They will spend the night there and move towards plains of Arafat at dawn tomorrow for the day’s main ritual of Haj, reciting prayers.
- Only those people are allowed to take part in pilgrimage who are below 65 years of age and have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
- The Haj pilgrimage was restricted to sixty thousand local residents from the Kingdom last year to contain spread of pandemics and to ensure safety of pilgrims.
- Around 2.5 million pilgrims including record two lakh pilgrims from India performed Haj in 2019 before the pandemic outbreak.
6.26 Million People In Sri Lanka Are Food Insecure
- The World Food Programme, in its latest report, said that 6.26 million people in Sri Lanka are food insecure. WFP further said, it targets three million people to receive emergency food, nutrition, and school meals until December.
- The statement said that three in 10 food-insecure households are severely food insecure and 65,600 of the total two lakh food insecure households are using emergency livelihood coping strategies.
- On other hand, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said that he has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to help his cash-strapped nation import fuel, as it faces its worst economic crisis since independence from Britain in 1948.
- It comes after Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister warned at the weekend that the country may soon run out of petrol.
PM Modi Visits Varanasi
- Mr. Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over 1800 crore rupees In Varanasi. These projects are focussed on improving infrastructure in the city and enhancing the ease of living for the common man.
- Prime Minister also inaugurated Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam on the implementation of the National Education Policy at the International Cooperation and Convention Centre – Rudraksha.
- Shiksha Samagam is being organized by the Union Education Ministry from 7th to 9th July.
- It will provide a platform for eminent academicians, policymakers, and academic leaders to deliberate and share their experiences and discuss the roadmap for effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Akshaya Patra Mid-Day Meal Kitchen in Varanasi. The automatic kitchen will cater to around 150 government schools and has the capacity of cooking mid-day meals for around one lakh students. The Prime Minister inspected the mega kitchen and interacted with the students.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Resigns
- Boris Johnson announced that he would quit as British prime minister.
- The scandal hit leader was left isolated as more than 40 ministers and aides, including three cabinet members, have quit the government since late Tuesday demanding his resignation.
- The Conservative leader was confronted at various points by members of his cabinet telling him it was time to go.
- Bowing to the pressure, Mr Johnson announced outside Downing Street to quit as Conservative leader but said he will continue to serve as Prime Minister until the party chooses his successor.
- Mr Johnson said, it is clearly now the will of Conservative MPs that there should be a new leader. He said the process of choosing new leader should begin now. In a tweet, deputy chairman of the Conservative Party Justin Tomlinson said that Johnson’s resignation was inevitable.
- Labour party said Johnson cannot stay on as PM, otherwise they will try to bring a no confidence vote in Parliament.
