India, China Decide To Resume Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

  • India and China on Monday decided to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, stopped since 2020. The decision was made at the meeting between foreign secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi.
  • “The relevant mechanism will discuss the modalities for doing so as per existing agreements. They also agreed to hold an early meeting of the India-China Expert Level Mechanism to discuss resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation pertaining to trans-border rivers,” a statement by the ministry of external affairs stated.
  • Both sides also agreed in principle to resume direct flights. India and China also agreed to promote and facilitate people-to-people contacts, especially between media and think tanks.

‘India will do the right thing on immigrants’: Trump

  • US President Donald Trump said on Monday (local time) prime minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States in February.
  • Trump’s statement followed his telephonic conversation with PM Modi, their’ first since the Republican was sworn in for a second term on January 20.
  • Meanwhile, President Trump also noted he discussed immigration with PM Modi and said India will do ‘what is right’ when it comes to taking back ’illegal immigrants.’
  • The US leader’s pledge to crackdown on illegal immigrants in the United States is believed to have played a crucial role in his return to the White House, four years after he lost as the incumbent to Democrat Joe Biden.

Indian Navy Hosts Indonesian Navy Delegation

  • Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, is on an official visit to India as part of the high-level delegation accompanying his Excellency President Prabowo Subianto, the Chief Guest for the Republic Day Parade 2025.
  • The Key areas of discussion between the two naval leaders included advancing joint initiatives like Exercise Samudra Shakti, strengthening operational collaboration, and addressing shared maritime challenges, including piracy and other illegal activities at sea.
  • The visit also includes engagements at key maritime establishments such as the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) and the Weapons and Electronics Systems and Engineering Establishment (WESEE), focusing on enhancing regional collaboration and maritime domain awareness.

Trump says will build ‘Iron Dome’ missile shield

  • President Donald Trump said Monday he would sign an executive order to start building an “Iron Dome” air defense system for the United States, like the one that Israel has used to intercept thousands of rockets.
  • Trump said the system “will be made right here in the USA.”
  • Trump however again sung the praises of the Israeli system, which Israel has used to shoot down rockets fired by its regional foes Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon during the war sparked by the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.
  • Iron Dome is an Israeli mobile all-weather air defense system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries. The system is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 to 70 kilometres (2–43 mi) away and whose trajectory would take them to an Israeli populated area.

Khelo India Winter Games 2025

  • In their second year as hosts, the Union Territory of Ladakh finished on top of the Khelo India Winter Games 2025, the first chapter of which ended at the NDS Stadium.
  • The grand finale saw the mouth-watering men’s ice hockey final and the Indian Army squeezed past ITBP 2-1 to retain the KIWG crown. The second and final phase of KIWG 2025 will be held in J&K’s Gulmarg from Feb 22-25.
