Renews Pact With Indonesian Coast Guard: ICG
- The ICG said it renewed an agreement with the Indonesian Coast Guard on cooperation for maritime safety and security for a period of three years. India and Indonesia resolved to boost their maritime security cooperation during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s four-day recent visit to New Delhi.
- “In a significant step towards furthering India-Indonesia comprehensive bilateral relations, the Indian Coast Guard and the Indonesia Coast Guard (Badan Keamanan Laut Republik Indonesia – BAKAMLA) renewed the MoU on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation for a period of three years,” the ICG said in a statement.
- Discussions centered on bolstering operational collaboration in areas like Maritime Search and Rescue, Pollution Response, and Maritime Law Enforcement. Both sides emphasised on sharing best practices and maintaining professional exchanges to enhance the safety and resilience of the Indo-Pacific region.
- Highlighting the ties between the two nations, ICG Ship Shaunak is currently on a deployment to Jakarta from January 27-30, 2025, to strengthen operational linkages with BAKAMLA. The renewed agreement underscores the commitment of India and Indonesia to fostering a secure and cooperative maritime environment.
Indian Army To Induct Indigenous Drones
- Indian company, IG Drones, has bagged a “significant contract” from the Indian Army which will require the supply of VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) and FPV (First-Person View) drones. As per the company these drones are indigenously manufactured, with no Chinese components.
- As per an IG Drones company official the deal was finalised in the second week of January and the complete delivery of both types of drones to the Indian Army has to be done in a month. He did not give both the drones’ quantities and project costs.
- The company officials confirmed that the components like cameras fitted in their drones have been imported from abroad but they have ensured them not to be of Chinese origin, the official added.
- “As of August 2024, India had 398 drone startups, doubling in three years, surpassing China’s 298. However, a recent Indian Army drone hijacking near the Pakistan border has raised security concerns, highlighting the need for certified, reliable companies to provide secure solutions”.
Kim Jong Un Vows Nuclear Programme To Continue
- North Korean leader Kim Jong Un vowed that Pyongyang’s nuclear programme would continue “indefinitely”, state media reported Wednesday, days after new US President Donald Trump said he would make renewed diplomatic overtures to the reclusive leader.
- Kim recently visited a nuclear-material production facility, Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency said, where Kim warned of an “inevitable” confrontation with hostile nations and said 2025 would be a “crucial year” for bolstering North Korea’s nuclear forces.
- The report, and Kim’s nuclear factory visit, follow Pyongyang’s test-firing on Saturday of sea-to-surface strategic guided cruise missiles, its first weapons test since Trump returned to the White House on January 20.

- after its canopy blew off at an altitude of 28,000-feet during a night operation — are among 14 personnel awarded the Shaurya Chakra — the third-highest peacetime gallantry award — on the eve of the Republic Day.
- The awards approved by President Droupadi Murmu Saturday also include Vayu Sena medals to eight personnel for various acts of gallantry.
ISRO Successfully Launches GSLV F-15 Rocket With NVS-02
- ISRO in its historic 100th launch successfully launched the GSLV F15 rocket from the second launch pad at 06:23 hrs on January 29, 2025, carrying the NVS-02 navigation satellite. Over a span of 99 launches, various missions have been carried out from Sriharikota.
- GSLV-F15 was the 17th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle and 11th flight with Indigenous Cryogenic stage. It is the 8th operational flight of GSLV with an indigenous Cryogenic engine and 100th Launch from the India’s Spaceport Sriharikota. GSLV-F15 payload fairing is a metallic version with a diameter of 3.4 meters.
- The GSLV-F15 with indigenous Cryogenic stage placed NVS-02 satellite into a precise Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.
- Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) is India’s independent regional navigation satellite system designed to provide accurate Position, Velocity and Timing (PVT) service to users in India as well as the region extending about 1500 km beyond the Indian landmass, which is its primary service area.
- NavIC is providing two types of services, namely, Standard Positioning Service (SPS) and Restricted Service (RS). NavIC SPS provides a position accuracy of better than 20 m (2σ) and timing accuracy better than 40 ns (2σ) over the primary service Area.
