India Expects Stable Delivery of GE-Powered Fighter Jets Next Fiscal Year After Delays
- India expects stable delivery of a domestically made light combat aircraft powered by a GE engine in the upcoming fiscal year after a delay of nearly 12 months, a top government official said on Sunday.
- India’s state-run plane maker Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) would have the capacity to hand over 16 to 24 aircraft in the fiscal year that starts in April following stable delivery of the engine made by the aerospace division of GE, the official said.
- The delivery of engines for the fighter jet named “Tejas” was due to begin in March 2024, but Indian defence ministry sources said supply chain constraints faced by GE impacted new deliveries beyond the 65 engines already delivered as of 2023.
- The Indian Air Force is desperate to shore up its fighter squadrons, which have fallen to 31 from a target of 42, at a time when rival China is expanding its own air force.
MoD inks Rs 642 Crore Contract with BEL
- The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited in New Delhi for procurement of 28 EON-51 systems for 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships for the Indian Navy at a total cost of Rs 642.17 crore, including taxes under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
- EON-51 is an Electro Optical Fire Control System which provides search, detection and classification of targets using Electro Optical and Thermal Imagers devices.
- The scheme will generate employment over a period of three years and encourage active participation of various Indian industries including MSMEs, thus significantly contributing to the Government’s efforts to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence.
Commanders’ Conference Held At Gandhinagar
- Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff attended the Annual South Western Air Command Commanders’ Conference, which was held from 05 to 07 February 2025 at Headquarters South Western Air Command, Gandhinagar.
- CAS highlighted the crucial role played by the command. He stressed on capability development and exhorted all personnel to imbibe the spirit of the lAF doctrine which envisages the lAF as an agile, adaptive and decisive aerospace power.
- The CAS appreciated the efforts of the Commanders especially during Exercise Tarang Shakti-24. In culmination, the CAS awarded trophies to stations for their noteworthy performances in various spheres.
Indian Navy Chiefs’ Conclave 2025
- The Indian Navy Chiefs’ Conclave was held at the Naval Headquarters, New Delhi from 08 – 09 Feb 25, bringing together eight Former Naval Chiefs and the current Naval leadership.
- The aim of the Conclave was to gain from the collective experience and knowledge of the former Chiefs and also update them on the latest developments and policy initiatives of the Navy.

PM Modi Heads to France
- PM Narendra Modi is headed to Paris on Monday to co-chair the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit along with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday.
- The summit is expected to announce a key outcome — a foundation that will look at AI in the public interest to cater to the needs of the Global South.
- India and France will likely make announcements on small modular reactors, boosting civil nuclear cooperation. An India-France Triangular Development Cooperation initiative is also likely to be launched.
- The two countries will declare that 2026 will be celebrated as India-France Innovation year and launch a logo. Macron and Modi will visit the city of Marseille and inaugurate an Indian consulate there.
- Marseille is also a strategic telecommunications connection hub. Its location at the heart of the Mediterranean makes it the gateway for submarine cables linking Europe to Africa, West Asia and Asia. Submarine cables carry 99% of the world’s data traffic (internet and telephony).

- The 15th edition of Aero India will open on February 10, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurating the event at Air Force Station, Yelahanka. The biennial air show, described as Asia’s largest, will run until February 14.
- The Ministry of Defence said more than 900 exhibitors, including 150 foreign companies, will participate. Singh, who arrived in Bengaluru.
- The defence minister noted that India’s defence production, which has crossed Rs 1.27 lakh crore, is expected to exceed Rs 1.60 lakh crore by 2025-26. Defence exports, which reached Rs 21,000 crore, are projected to surpass Rs 30,000 crore.
- Officials said the event will feature displays by the Indian Air Force and global aerospace firms. The Russian Su-57 and the American F-35 Lightning II, two advanced fifth-generation fighter aircraft, will participate for the first time.
