Marine Pollution Response Workshop to Strengthen Oil Spill Readiness

Indian Coast Guard in collaboration with the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC), hosted a two-day Marine Pollution Response Seminar and Workshop from May 21–22, 2025. Held in Haldia, the event aimed at enhancing preparedness, coordination, and rapid response capability among key stakeholders in managing oil spill incidents along the West Bengal coast.

The seminar, inaugurated by the ICG Commander (West Bengal), featured expert presentations by domain specialists from the ICG and HDC at the Coast Guard Pollution Response Cell. A practical demonstration of pollution response equipment was held at the HDC, giving participants a hands-on understanding of the capabilities of state-of-the-art pollution response systems.

Stakeholders from across the maritime and petrochemical sectors including Kolkata Port Trust, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Haldia Refinery, Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Reliance Haldia Terminals, and others actively participated.

Nibe Limited Secures $17.52 Million Export Order

• NIBE Limited, a pioneering Indian manufacturer of critical defence systems, is pleased to announce the receipt of a significant export Purchase Order valued at USD 17.52 million from a globally renowned leading technology-based company in Israel.
• The order involves the manufacturing and supply of Universal Rocket Launchers with a range capability of up to 300 kilometres – a highly advanced technology being produced in India for the first time for the global market.
• This is a landmark achievement for NIBE Limited and a proud milestone for India’s defence manufacturing sector. With this contract, we reaffirm our commitment to the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and Make in India, bringing world-class defence technology to Indian soil.
• The Universal Rocket Launcher is among the most advanced in its class and is designed to outperform currently available global alternatives. This order not only marks a major step forward in NIBE Limited’s international expansion but also strengthens India’s strategic position in the field of modern warfare systems.

Operation Bunyan Al-Marsoos Lasted Just 8 Hours

• On May 10, 2025, Pakistan’s much-publicised Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos, launThe operation began at 1:00 am with Pakistan vowing to destroy Indian air bases within 48 hours, but by 9:30 am, its offensive capacity had been severely degraded by a series of intense IAF strikes.
• The IAF executed four major air strikes during the night, employing Rafale jets armed with SCALP missiles and SU-30 MKIs equipped with Brahmos missiles. The first wave of strikes targeted the Nur Khan airbase in Chaklala, crippling Pakistan’s northern air command-control network.
• Subsequent attacks hit Jacobabad and Bholari air bases. By the time the final strikes landed, Pakistan’s air defenses and air assets had been devastated, forcing Islamabad to urgently seek U.S. intervention for a ceasefire.
• The Indian Navy, meanwhile, maneuvered its fleet within striking distance of Karachi Naval Port, prepared to launch Brahmos missiles. Pakistan’s DGMO warned that any attack on the port would trigger retaliation, but this threat did not deter Indian military or political leadership.

Mahindra Defence System Unveils New 4×4 Bulletproof Vehicle

• Mahindra Defence Systems has unveiled a new 4×4 bulletproof platform, designed for military and paramilitary use. This vehicle is notable for being based on the Ford F-series heavy-duty chassis, which is recognised for its robustness and reliability in demanding environments.

India’s First Electric Motor-Driven Semi-Cryogenic Rocket Engine

• Agnikul Cosmos, a Chennai-based private space start-up, has marked a significant milestone in India’s space technology landscape by successfully test-firing the nation’s first electric motor-driven semi-cryogenic rocket engine.
• This engine is set to power Agnikul’s upcoming Agnibaan launch vehicle and represents a pioneering leap for India’s rapidly advancing private space sector.
• Agnikul’s engine is its innovative use of an electric motor to drive the fuel pumps, a departure from the conventional reliance on gas generators or turbopumps. This electric motor-driven throttling system enables engineers to precisely control the engine’s thrust by adjusting the motor’s speed.
• The engine operates on a semi-cryogenic cycle, circulating a combination of liquid oxygen (as the cryogenic oxidizer) and refined kerosene (as the non-cryogenic fuel).
• Agnikul’s signature single-piece engine design remains central to this new system. Many of the engine’s pump subsystems were 3D-printed and assembled at the company’s AS9100D-certified Rocket Factory-1, located at the IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai.
• The motor drives and associated control software were also designed and developed entirely in-house.
• Agnibaan, which can be configured to carry payloads ranging from 30 kg to 300 kg, is designed to serve the growing demand for affordable and customisable satellite launches.

CDS Visits Northern & Western Commands HQs 

• Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan visited Indian Army’s Northern Command at Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir and Western Command at Chandimandir Military Station, Haryana on May 25, 2025. He interacted with the Army Commanders, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma and Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, and senior Staff Officers who were actively involved in the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor. He conducted a strategic review and operational assessment in the Northern and Western theatres during the visit.
• At Udhampur, the CDS was briefed on the success of the Northern Army in neutralising the terror network, adversary’s assets that supported terror and counter measures taken to protect own military assets & civil population during Operation Sindoor. He was appreciated about the efforts by the Northern Army in the rehabilitation of the civilians of the border areas who were targeted by the adversary.
• The Northern Army Commander gave an update on the continued operational & logistics preparedness of the Northern Army and assured the CDS of its commitment in protecting the borders, while also launching an all-out effort to eradicate terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir.
