MoD Initiates Comprehensive Review of DAP 2020  

• Following the declaration of 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms‘, the MoD has initiated a comprehensive review of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 to align it with existing Government of India policies and initiatives.
• A Committee headed by the Director General (Acquisition) has been constituted to carry out extensive deliberations with all stakeholders.
• The Committee includes senior officers from MoD, representatives from the Defence Industry and Academia. The Ministry has also appointed former IAS officer Shri Apurva Chandra (1980 batch), who has previously served as DG (Acquisition), as the Principal Advisor to the Committee.
• The aim of the DAP Review is to
• Meet the operational requirements and modernisation of the Armed Forces in a timely manner to ensure national security.
• Align acquisition procedures with GoI policies and initiatives to
• Achieve Aatmanirbharta (Self-Reliance) by promoting technology infusion through indigenously designed and developed systems.
• Enable ‘Make in India’ by promoting defence manufacturing in India through facilitation of Joint Ventures and Transfer of Technology for the private sector, encouraging foreign OEMs via FDI alignment, and establishing India as a global Defence manufacturing and MRO hub.
• Promote Design & Development in both public and private sectors, with a focus on Startups, Innovators, and the Private Defence Industry for indigenous technology infusion.

India Set To Induct 300-Km Range Pinaka

• DRDO is poised to revolutionise the nation’s artillery capabilities with the development of advanced Pinaka rocket systems featuring extended ranges of 120 km and 300 km.
• These next-generation variants, designated as Pinaka-3 and Pinaka-4, represent a significant leap in India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and are expected to be inducted into the Indian Army within the next three to five years.
• With current operational variants including the MK-I version with approximately 40 km range, the Pinaka-II with 60 km range, and the MK-II ER variant extending up to 90 km.
• DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat has confirmed that development work is progressing on Pinaka-3 and Pinaka-4 variants, featuring significantly enhanced ranges of 120 km and 300 km respectively.

Massive U-Turn; Trump Credits India And Pakistan Leaders For Ending Conflict

• In a marked departure from his earlier statements, U.S. President Donald Trump has, for the first time, publicly acknowledged that the leaders of India and Pakistan themselves decided to halt their recent military conflict, rather than attributing the peace to his own intervention.
• Speaking to the media after meeting Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, at the White House, Trump praised both PM Narendra Modi of India and Pakistan’s leadership, describing them as “very smart people” who chose not to escalate the situation into a potentially catastrophic war between two nuclear-armed nations.
• Trump stated, “I want to thank him [Munir] for not going into the war, ending the war. And I want to thank, as you know, Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago… I’m so happy that two smart people… decided not to keep going with that war. That could have been a nuclear war”.

Honda Successfully Tested Reusable Rocket

• Honda R&D, the research and development division of Honda Motor, has made a significant leap into the burgeoning field of reusable space technology with the successful launch and landing of its experimental reusable rocket.
• This landmark test, conducted in Taiki Town, Hiroo District, Hokkaido, Japan, marks Honda’s formal entry into the competitive arena of reusable rockets—a sector poised to reshape space access by dramatically lowering costs and increasing launch frequency.
• The entire flight lasted 56.6 seconds and successfully demonstrated several critical technologies essential for rocket reusability, including stable flight during ascent and descent, as well as controlled, pinpoint landing capabilities.

ET-LDHCM Hypersonic Missile 3X Faster Than BrahMos

• India stands on the precipice of a major technological breakthrough in hypersonic warfare with the development of the Extended Trajectory Long Duration Hypersonic Cruise Missile under the classified Project Vishnu.
• Building upon India’s successful missile programs including the BrahMos, Agni-5, and Akash systems, this next-generation hypersonic cruise missile represents the culmination of decades of indigenous research & development.
• The ET-LDHCM’s most striking feature is its extraordinary velocity, achieving speeds of Mach 8, approximately 11,000 kilometres per hour.
• The range comparison reveals an even more dramatic improvement, with the ET-LDHCM’s 1,500-kilometre reach far exceeding the BrahMos system’s current range of 290-650 kilometres depending on the variant.
