INS Himgiri Delivered To Indian Navy
- A major milestone in achieving self-reliance in warship design and construction, Himgiri (Yard 3022), the third ship of Nilgiri Class (Project 17A) and the first of the class built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), was delivered to the Indian Navy.
- Project 17A frigates are versatile multi-mission platforms, designed to address current and future challenges in the maritime domain.
- Himgiri is a reincarnation of the erstwhile INS Himgiri, a Leander-class frigate, that was decommissioned on 06 May 2005 after 30 years of glorious service to the nation.
- These ships are configured with Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion plants, comprising a diesel engine and gas turbine, that drives a Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) on each shaft, and a state-of-the-art Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).
- With an indigenous content of 75%, the project has involved over 200 MSMEs at GRSE and has enabled generation of employment for approx. 4,000 personnel directly and more than 10,000 personnel indirectly.
Indigenous Hovercraft Construction for ICG
- The ICG has kicked off construction of its first indigenously built Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) with the Girder Laying and Commencement of Erection ceremony at Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd. in Goa.
- The hovercraft, based on proven Griffon Hover work designs, are being built with Indian expertise to suit varied coastal security operations. Once inducted, the ACVs will provide enhanced speed, tactical flexibility, and shallow-water operability, enabling swift response for patrolling, interdiction, and search and rescue missions across India’s vast maritime frontier.
INS Satpura Arrives In Singapore For SIMBEX-25
- Indian Naval Ship Satpura has arrived at Singapore to participate in the 32nd edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX-25), marking yet another chapter in the strong and enduring maritime partnership between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
- The exercise, a hallmark of the deep-rooted naval cooperation between the two nations, commenced with the Harbour Phase, which includes Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs), professional interactions, and operational-level discussions.
- The Sea Phase of SIMBEX-25 — the cornerstone of the bilateral maritime engagement — will witness execution of a comprehensive array of advanced naval operations.
Axiscades reveals details of over Rs 600 cr orders
- Axiscades Technologies disclosed details of earlier-announced orders of around Rs 600 crores from DRDO, BEL and other defence laboratories for development and production of advanced sub-systems for some of the most sophisticated indigenous platforms.
- Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), subsidiary of DRDO, has placed an order of around Rs 203 cr to the company for development of Digital Transmit Module (Another order worth Rs 150 cr placed by DRDO subsidiary involves development of 500 units of S-Band Octal Digital Transmit and Receive Module (ODTRM) and Octal Digital Receive Module (ODRM) by Axiscades.

US Navy’s F-35 Fighter Jet Crashes in California
- A US Navy F-35 fighter jet crashed in California on Thursday near Naval Air Station Lemoore, according to a Navy press statement.
- The pilot ejected safely, and the cause of the crash, which occurred around 6:30 pm, is under investigation, the statement said.
- The aircraft was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron VF-125, known as the “Rough Raiders,” the Navy said. VF-125 is a Fleet Replacement Squadron, responsible for training pilots and aircrew.

- Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, AVSM, VSM assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command on 31 Jul 2025.
- He succeeds Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, PVSM, AVSM, NM who superannuated after four decades of distinguished service in the Indian Navy.
