India Receives Last of Airbus C-295 Aircraft

  • Indian Ambassador to Spain, Dinesh K Patnaik along with other senior officials received the last of the 16 Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft at the Airbus Defence and Space assembly line in Seville.
  • Indian embassy in Spain on Saturday said that the delivery was two months ahead of the schedule, marking an important milestone in Indian defence capabilities.
  • The Airbus C295 is a robust, reliable and highly versatile tactical transport aircraft designed for missions ranging from troop and cargo transport, maritime patrol, airborne warning, surveillance and reconnaissance, to signals intelligence, armed close air support, medical evacuation, VIP transport and airborne firefighting.
  • It is the world’s most versatile and efficient multi-role tactical airlifter.
  • With more than 300 aircraft under contract, the C295 has an outstanding reliability record and proves itself to be a highly efficient aircraft every day.
  • The procurement of 56 C295 aircraft from Airbus Spain in a USD 2.5 billion contract, 40 of which will be made in India by Tata Advanced Systems, represents the first Make in India project in the defence aircraft sector.

India, New Zealand Reaffirm Strong Defence Ties

  • Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, met New Zealand Defence Ministry’s Head of International Branch, Kathleen Pearce, in New Delhi on Monday and reaffirmed commitment to deepen cooperation across key strategic domains.
  • The commitment towards defence cooperation comes at the heels of the recently held second round of India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement Negotiations, which concluded in New Delhi, that significant advancements in multiple areas,
  • including trade in goods and services, investment, rules of origin, customs procedures and trade facilitation, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and economic cooperation.
  • The Second Round of negotiations for the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) concluded successfully on July 25 in New Delhi, further advancing the shared objective of strengthening bilateral trade and economic partnerships.

Australia Awards Navy Frigate Contract to Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy

  • Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will deliver the first of Australia’s new navy frigates under a A$10 billion ($6.5 billion) deal, Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles said on Tuesday.
  • The three frigate contract will be the biggest Australian defence purchase since the government in 2023 agreed to build nuclear-powered submarines with the United States and Britain, and one of Japan’s biggest defence export deals.
  • The upgraded Mogami-class frigate was capable of launching long-range missiles and had a range of up to 10,000 nautical miles, compared to Australia’s current Anzac Class frigates, which had a range of around 6,000 nautical miles. It also operated with a smaller crew than the Anzac class.

‘Targeting by US Unjustified’: India’s Strong Response

  • The Indian government issued a strong-worded statement on Monday in response to US President Donald Trump’s fresh tariff warning. In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the government has stated it has been targeted by the United States and EU over its purchase of Russian oil.
  • Earlier on Monday, Donald Trump took to Truth Social and warned of more tariffs on India for its purchase of Russian oil and military products amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. What did the MEA say?Taking to X, the Ministry of External Affairs issued the following statement –
  • India has been targeted by the United States and the European Union for importing oil from Russia after the commencement of the Ukraine conflict. In fact, India began importing from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict. The United States at that time actively encouraged such imports by India for strengthening global energy markets stability.

No Trademark for Op Sindoor Yet

  • The government on Monday clarified that no trademark applications for the terms “Operation Sindoor” or “Ops Sindoor” have been accepted yet. The disclosure came in response to a series of questions raised by Member of Parliament Sagarika Ghose in the Rajya Sabha.
  • Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Jitin Prasada informed the House that while the Trademarks Registry has seen a sharp rise in filings related to “Operation Sindoor,” none have been approved to date. “No application has been accepted till date and one application has been withdrawn,” the Minister said.
  • A total of 46 applications are currently pending, with applicants ranging from private individuals and media producers to food manufacturers and beauty brands, the government said.
  • In addition to direct references to the operation, variations such as “Mission Sindoor,” “Sindoor TV,” “Sindoor: The Revenge,” and logo-based marks have also been submitted for registration.
