Semiconductor Planned in UPEIDA

  • After BrahMos missiles, semiconductor infrared detectors, a highly sophisticated set of devices used for thermal imaging in darkness, could soon be manufactured at the defence corridor’s Lucknow node in Sarojininagar.
  • For this, Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is going to allot 10 hectares of land to Dehradun-based DRDO’s Instruments Research and Development Establishment without any cost for the manufacture of multi-sensor surveillance systems as well as opto-electrical equipment.
  • According to the authority, almost 5,000 such devices are imported every year from Israel and France, and the indigenous facility will help the country strengthen its defence systems. The Uttar Pradesh govt, after holding a cabinet meeting in July, had cleared the proposal of handing over the 10 hectares of land to the premier defence institute.
  • UPEIDA in the past has already given a commitment to handing over 80 hectares of land within the Sarojininagar node of the defence corridor to the defence ministry. Similarly, land will be awarded to the premier institute that is governed by DRDO.
  • UPEIDA has already managed to aggregate more than 160 hectares of land in the defence node being planned on the Lucknow-Unnao border and has initiated the process of developing the land bank and awarding it.
