Project Arunank (BRO) Marks 18th Raising Day
Project Arunank of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) commemorated its 18th Raising Day on October 24, 2025, at Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh. Established in 2008, the project has played a vital role in connecting some of India’s most remote and strategic locations. Over the years, it has built and maintained more than 696 kilometres of roads and 1.18 kilometres of major bridges, ensuring reliable access to forward areas and supporting the operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.
A major milestone for Project Arunank has been the successful completion of the 278 km Hapoli–Sarli–Huri Road, which was blacktopped for the first time since Independence, linking one of the remotest regions of Kurung Kumey district. The project continues to adopt modern and eco-friendly construction techniques such as Steel Slag, Geo Cells, Cut-and-Cover Tunnels, Plastic Sheets, GGBFS Concrete, and Gabion Walls, significantly improving road strength and environmental sustainability in the challenging Himalayan terrain.
Indian Coast Guard Launches Two Advanced Fast Patrol Vessels
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has strengthened its maritime fleet with the launch of two state-of-the-art Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) — ICG Ship Ajit and ICGS Aparajit — at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). These are the seventh and eighth vessels in a series of eight indigenously built FPVs developed for the Coast Guard.
Each vessel measures 52 metres in length, displaces 320 tonnes, and features Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP) — a first for this class in India — ensuring greater propulsion efficiency and agility. Designed for multiple missions, these FPVs will conduct coastal patrols, fisheries protection, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and search and rescue operations in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and around its island territories, enhancing coastal security and rapid-response capability.
Russia Successfully Tests Nuclear-Powered Cruise Missile
Russia has announced the successful test of its Burevestnik (9M730) nuclear-powered cruise missile, also known by NATO as SSC-X-9 Skyfall. The missile reportedly travelled 14,000 kilometres in approximately 15 hours, powered entirely by a nuclear propulsion system — a unique capability that allows it to sustain extremely long-range and low-detectability flight.
This test signifies a major technological advancement in Russia’s strategic arsenal, demonstrating endurance and resilience against enemy defence systems. According to data from the Federation of American Scientists, Russia and the United States collectively hold about 87% of the world’s nuclear stockpile, with Moscow possessing 5,459 warheads and Washington 5,177. President Vladimir Putin emphasized that this successful trial underlines the readiness of Russia’s modernized deterrence systems and its commitment to safeguarding national and allied security, particularly within the Union State alliance with Belarus.
ISRO Set to Launch GSAT-7R (CMS-03) Military Communication Satellite
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up to launch its next-generation military communication satellite, GSAT-7R (CMS-03), on November 2, 2025, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The satellite will be launched aboard the LVM3-M5 heavy-lift rocket and will serve as a vital replacement for GSAT-7 (Rukmini), which has been in service since 2013.
Funded by the Ministry of Defence at a cost of approximately ₹1,589 crore, the 2,650 kg satellite is designed specifically for the Indian Navy. Operating in geostationary orbit, it will provide continuous, secure communication coverage across the Indian Ocean Region, bolstering India’s maritime surveillance and strategic communication systems.
The launch comes amid a rapidly growing global military communication market, projected to rise from $34.28 billion in 2025 to $55.77 billion by 2032. Meanwhile, the military satellite sector alone is expected to reach $30 billion by 2032. Despite currently holding less than 2% of the global space market, India aims to expand its share to 10% within a decade. With over 430 satellites launched for 34 nations, ISRO has already earned more than ₹3,100 crore in global revenue, solidifying its reputation as a leading player in the Asia–Pacific space economy.
CDS General Anil Chauhan Begins Six-Day Visit to Indonesia
India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan embarked on a six-day visit to Indonesia to deepen bilateral defence cooperation. During his visit to Jakarta, General Chauhan is scheduled to meet Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and General Agus Subiyanto, along with chiefs of the Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The CDS will also visit key defence industrial facilities and shipyards in Bandung and Surabaya to explore opportunities for joint defence production and technology exchange. The visit is expected to reinforce defence and strategic collaboration, following up on the outcomes of President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to India in January 2025. This engagement underscores the growing synergy between India and Indonesia in maintaining peace, stability, and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
