Sri Lankan Opposition Leader Supports India’s Permanent UNSC Seat Bid
Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader, Sajith Premadasa, has expressed strong support for India’s long-standing aspiration to secure a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He described this move as a reflection of the “global power realities” and reaffirmed his commitment to continue backing India’s candidature.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Premadasa during his visit, stating on X that India remains dedicated to strengthening its ties with Sri Lanka under the “Neighbourhood First” policy. Premadasa also participated in a session at Sapru House, organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), where he stressed the importance of resolving the fishermen issue between both nations through structured dialogue and cooperation.
Highlighting the relevance of international conventions like the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Premadasa urged both countries to ensure that all fishing activities are sustainable, lawful, and mutually beneficial.
Indian Army’s EME Launches Drone Hubs in Southern Command
The Indian Army’s Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) has established Drone Hubs under the Southern Command, marking a major leap towards indigenous defence innovation. These hubs focus on the design, development, and mass production of combat-ready drones, furthering the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
Under the guiding principle “Eagle on Every Arm,” the initiative seeks to empower every soldier with the capability to operate drones for tasks such as surveillance, precision targeting, and electronic warfare. This marks a shift toward integrating drones as a standard operational asset across all units.
The hubs leverage EME’s technical expertise in equipment maintenance and work in close collaboration with India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to promote rapid prototyping and indigenous innovation in drone technology.
IISc Develops India’s First Photonic Quantum Computer
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by creating India’s first six-qubit photonic quantum computer. This world-first system successfully generates a six-qubit entangled GHZ (Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger) state using deterministic gate operations, eliminating the need for probabilistic processes.
This photonic system uses light particles—photons—as qubits, utilising their polarisation and spatial path properties to encode multiple qubits per photon. Two photons together create a six-qubit configuration, enabling complex quantum operations at room temperature.
The IISc team demonstrated universal quantum gates through a quantum walk mechanism using linear optical components like beam splitters and waveplates. This innovation represents a major stride toward practical, noise-resistant, and scalable quantum computing technology in India.
Indigenous Tactical Gear by Anuvyom Alliance
Anuvyom Alliance, a defence technology firm based in Greater Noida, is spearheading the production of indigenous tactical and protective gear for India’s defence and security forces. Located in the UPSIDA Industrial Area, the company focuses on innovation in military-grade protective solutions.
The organisation manufactures bulletproof jackets, riot shields, stun batons, and anti-spike boots—crafted using advanced materials and modern designs. This aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing, ensuring that frontline personnel are equipped with reliable and high-performance gear that enhances their safety and operational efficiency.
DRDO Invites Industry Partners for Jam-Tolerant Actuator Development
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has invited private industry participation under its Technology Development Fund (TDF) for the design and creation of a Jam-Tolerant Geared Rotary Actuator intended for advanced aerospace applications.
This project aims to strengthen India’s self-reliance in sophisticated actuator technologies vital for aircraft flight control and stealth systems. As per the Request for Proposal (RFP) released on DRDO’s website, the project mandates a minimum of 50% indigenous content to encourage domestic innovation and production in the aerospace sector.
Safran to Expand Indian Supplier Network by FY26
French aerospace giant Safran has announced plans to increase its Indian supplier base from 25 to over 40 by the fiscal year 2026. This move aligns with the company’s strategy to deepen its integration with India’s expanding aerospace ecosystem under the Make in India initiative.
According to Marjolaine Grange, Executive Vice-President of Global Purchasing at Safran, the expansion reflects growing confidence in India’s precision manufacturing and material engineering capabilities. Safran currently operates multiple facilities in India focused on engine components and avionics, and it has been steadily increasing collaboration with local vendors since 2004.
The company expects procurement from India to double by 2027 and continue rising by 2030, reinforcing India’s vital role in Safran’s global value chain. This growth initiative aims to build a resilient, cost-effective, and technologically advanced supply network that benefits both India and the global aerospace industry.
