MoD Signs ₹2,095 Crore Deal with BDL for Anti-Tank Missiles

The Ministry of Defence has finalized a major contract worth ₹2,095.70 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the acquisition of INVAR Anti-Tank Guided Missiles under the Buy (Indian) category.

This procurement aims to elevate the Indian Army’s firepower, particularly enhancing the combat effectiveness of the T-90 main battle tanks, which form a vital part of India’s armoured regiments.

The INVAR missile is a highly advanced laser-guided weapon system known for its precision and strong strike capability. Its induction is expected to significantly improve India’s mechanised warfare operations and provide a strategic advantage during armoured engagements.

Turkey Denies Overflight Clearance to An-124 Carrying Indian Army Apaches

In a development that caused considerable logistical delays, a Russian-made Antonov An-124 strategic airlifter, transporting three AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters destined for the Indian Army, was stranded for over a week in the United Kingdom.

The delay occurred after Turkey refused permission for the aircraft to use its airspace. Reports suggest that Ankara’s decision was influenced by geopolitical factors and coordination protocols involving NATO and Russia.

The An-124, operated by a U.S.-based logistics contractor, was en route from the United States when the issue disrupted the delivery timeline for India’s first batch of Apache helicopters. Defence observers noted increased interest in the flight, as the aircraft was suspected to be carrying critical military hardware associated with international defence transactions.

L&T to Begin Production of ABHYAS Aerial Target System

In a significant boost to India’s indigenous defence manufacturing, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to start production of ABHYAS, a High-Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) system.

Developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) under DRDO, ABHYAS is designed to simulate realistic aerial threats for training and weapon evaluation across the armed forces.

The system has successfully completed ten flight trials, demonstrating reliability, repeatability, user-friendly deployment, and compliance with international performance standards. Its indigenous production marks a major step forward in enhancing India’s self-reliance in defence technologies.

INDEC Complex Inaugurated at HEMRL for Advanced Material Testing

A landmark facility, the Integrated Non-Destructive Evaluation Complex (INDEC), was inaugurated on 27 September 2025 at the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).

The ceremony was led by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO. He highlighted the crucial role of advanced Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods in ensuring the safety, reliability, and certification of critical defence and aerospace systems.

The INDEC facility introduces several state-of-the-art technologies, including:

  • India’s first triple-energy industrial LINAC (7/11/15 MeV),
  • A dual-energy LINAC (2/6 MeV),
  • A 450 kV X-Ray system with multi-motor radiography features.

These capabilities enable high-precision digital X-ray and volumetric CT inspections across a broad energy spectrum, making INDEC the only centre in India equipped with such comprehensive evaluation tools.
