PM Modi Inaugurates Safran Aircraft Engine Services Facility

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI), a world-class Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility established at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park in Hyderabad. Spread across nearly 45,000 square metres and built with an investment of approximately ₹1,300 crore, the centre marks a major capability boost for India’s civil aviation sector.

The facility specialises in servicing LEAP engines, which power widely used aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. Recognised for their fuel efficiency and lower emissions, LEAP engines represent the future of commercial aviation. By 2035, the Hyderabad plant is expected to achieve full operational strength, enabling the maintenance of nearly 300 engines annually—positioning it among the world’s largest engine servicing hubs.

This initiative reinforces the deepening Indo-French partnership while highlighting India’s emergence as a trusted global destination for advanced aerospace engineering and services.

Rafale Engine Assembly Plans in India

French aerospace major Safran reaffirmed its long-term vision for India by expressing readiness to set up a final assembly line for Rafale fighter jet engines, provided additional orders are placed by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The announcement followed the inauguration of the LEAP engine MRO centre.

Safran CEO Olivier Andries noted that India’s recent procurement of 26 Rafale-M naval fighters and its existing fleet of Rafales and Mirage 2000 aircraft make the country a promising hub for future manufacturing. On the same day, Safran commenced work on a dedicated MRO facility for the M88 engines that power Rafale jets—further strengthening its defence footprint in India.

Pentagon Considers Adding Chinese Tech Giants to Military List

According to reports, the U.S. Pentagon has assessed that major Chinese technology companies—including Alibaba, Baidu and BYD—should be included in its 1260H list of firms believed to be aiding China’s military establishment. This designation, though not an immediate ban, signals a strong caution for American businesses engaging with these companies.

Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg conveyed the findings to lawmakers ahead of a key U.S.–China diplomatic meeting. Five additional companies, including Hua Hong Semiconductor and RoboSense Technology, were also recommended for inclusion. Being placed on the list can affect the global standing and commercial activities of the concerned firms.
