Moscow Approves HAL Koraput for Su-57E Engine Manufacturing
India has achieved a remarkable milestone in its quest for self-reliance in defence technology. Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit to New Delhi, Moscow has reportedly granted a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement that will allow Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Koraput, Odisha, to manufacture the advanced Izdeliye 177S engines used in the Su-57E fifth-generation fighter jet.
The Izdeliye 177S is a sophisticated low-bypass, two-shaft turbofan equipped with thrust-vectoring control (TVC), a feature that significantly enhances manoeuvrability at low speeds and high angles of attack. This capability gives fighter aircraft superior performance in complex missions while also improving survivability and fuel efficiency.
By entering the elite group of nations capable of producing fifth-generation fighter propulsion systems, India has bolstered its strategic aviation capabilities and reinforced its long-term defence ambitions.
IIT-Bombay Launches India’s First ₹250 Crore Deep Tech Venture Fund
In a major boost to India’s innovation and start-up ecosystem, IIT-Bombay has unveiled the nation’s first deep-tech venture capital fund linked to an academic incubator. Established by the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), the ₹250-crore Y-Point Venture Capital Fund aims to support early-stage start-ups working on breakthrough technologies.
The fund’s launch was aligned with IIT-Bombay’s long-term Strategy Plan for 2026–2030 and received clearance from its Board of Governors under the leadership of Dr. K. Radhakrishnan. This pioneering initiative leverages IIT-Bombay’s strong research culture, allowing innovations born in laboratories to be guided through commercialisation and scaling.
The Y-Point Fund will prioritise sectors crucial for future technological advancement, including:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Advanced Computing
- Materials and Manufacturing Technologies
- Nuclear Technology
- Space and Defence Applications
The fund marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s position as a global hub for deep-tech entrepreneurship.
TATA Signs Intel as First Major Buyer of Indian-Made Semiconductors
In a landmark development for India’s semiconductor manufacturing ambitions, TATA Group has secured Intel as the first major global customer for its India-made semiconductor products. This milestone reinforces worldwide confidence in India’s ability to meet international-quality standards in chip fabrication—a sector dominated by a handful of technologically advanced nations.
TATA’s substantial investment in state-of-the-art fabrication infrastructure and adherence to rigorous production benchmarks has positioned the company as a promising entrant in the global semiconductor supply chain. Intel’s decision to source from TATA showcases India’s growing technological capability and boosts the nation’s aspiration to achieve self-reliance in critical electronic components.
This partnership is expected to accelerate innovation, attract global investments, and nurture skilled semiconductor talent across India.
