Indian Coast Guard to Commission Indigenous Pollution Control Vessel ‘Samudra Pratap’
The Indian Coast Guard is set to induct its first indigenously designed and constructed pollution control vessel, Samudra Pratap, marking a major step towards self-reliance in maritime capabilities. The vessel will be commissioned by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on January 5.
With a length of 114.5 metres and a displacement of approximately 4,200 tonnes, Samudra Pratap boasts over 60 percent indigenous content. It is capable of achieving speeds exceeding 22 knots and has an operational endurance of about 6,000 nautical miles. The vessel will play a crucial role in preventing marine pollution, enforcing maritime laws, conducting search and rescue missions, and safeguarding India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi Undertakes Official Visit to UAE and Sri Lanka
Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has commenced a four-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka to strengthen defence ties and enhance military cooperation.
During his UAE visit, the Army Chief will hold discussions with senior military leadership and visit prominent defence institutions, including the UAE National Defence College. He will also interact with officers and troops to exchange views on regional security challenges.
In the second phase of the tour, Gen Dwivedi will visit Sri Lanka, where he will meet senior military and civilian leaders, including the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. He is also scheduled to address officers at the Defence Services Command and Staff College and pay tribute at the IPKF War Memorial, honouring Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during peacekeeping operations. The visit highlights India’s commitment to defence cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region and West Asia.
DRDO’s SAMHO CLATGM Receives Acceptance of Necessity for Arjun Tanks
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone with the Ministry of Defence granting Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of the SAMHO CLATGM (Cannon Launched Anti-Tank Guided Missile). This missile has been developed specifically for deployment from the Arjun Main Battle Tank.
The system, also known as a semi-active laser-guided missile, fulfils a long-pending requirement of the Indian Army to engage armoured targets at extended ranges. It can be fired from the Arjun tank’s 120 mm rifled gun and has undergone successful trials, including tests at the KK Ranges in Ahmednagar.
Equipped with a tandem HEAT warhead capable of defeating explosive reactive armour, the missile can engage targets at ranges between 1.5 km and 5 km. Its precision, beyond-line-of-sight capability, and adaptability against multiple threats enhance the combat effectiveness of the Arjun tank fleet.
U.S. Military Operation in Venezuela Sparks Global Reaction
Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured during a U.S. military operation in Caracas and transported to the United States, where they are set to face federal charges. According to U.S. authorities, the operation was conducted by elite Delta Force units.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States would temporarily oversee Venezuela during a transition period, emphasizing efforts to restore oil production. However, U.S. officials clarified that Washington does not intend to directly govern the country and will instead maintain economic pressure, including an oil quarantine.

PEL Secures ₹2.7 Crore Defence Contract for Masts and Tripods
Precision Electronics Ltd (PEL), headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has been awarded a government contract worth approximately ₹2.7 crore for supplying specialised masts and tripods to the defence sector.
Founded in 1979, PEL is a leading high-technology firm engaged in the design and manufacture of tactical infrastructure solutions. The supplied systems are designed to elevate lightweight payloads such as cameras, radios, lighting equipment, and surveillance systems.
These vehicle-mounted and rooftop mast solutions are critical for military communications, electronic warfare, intelligence gathering, and anti-drone operations. The contract further strengthens PEL’s position as a key contributor to India’s strategic defence infrastructure.
